armanzo 2017-01-25 12:51:44
hello
armanzo 2017-01-25 12:51:58
night
HumanAI 2017-01-25 12:52:58
afternoon
HumanAI 2017-01-25 12:56:09
is this the darkweb?
bazhang 2017-01-25 12:56:36
no
bazhang 2017-01-25 12:56:49
HumanAI, ubuntu support issue?
exad 2017-01-25 12:57:03
does anyone know how I could go about changing /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies and scaling_max_freq to match the actual speed of my cpu? I managed to change scaling_governor to performance since it wouldn't scale up under load. but I get permission denied even using su to push a script.
jnewt 2017-01-25 12:57:34
k1l_: i've added the ppa and ran apt-get update. where can i switch between the different available drivers now that i have no menus?
Ben64 2017-01-25 12:58:03
exad: those aren't changeable
HumanAI 2017-01-25 12:58:21
let bazhang anser it pls
k1l_ 2017-01-25 12:58:22
jnewt: sudo apt purge nvidia..... package. then install the nvidia package named on the ppa page i linked.
bazhang 2017-01-25 12:58:42
HumanAI, don't do that here
exad 2017-01-25 12:58:45
Ben64: is there a way to get it to recognize the 4ghz speed? It's stuck at 3.3ghz which is even lower than the stock clock.
Ben64 2017-01-25 12:58:57
exad: what cpu is it
bazhang 2017-01-25 12:59:03
chatter somewhere else HumanAI
HumanAI 2017-01-25 12:59:07
thats what you get for being friendlly
exad 2017-01-25 12:59:21
an amd fx 8320
Ben64 2017-01-25 12:59:45
and what does scaling_available_frequencies say
jnewt 2017-01-25 12:59:50
k1l_: i don't have the nvidia pacakge, so purge didn't do anything. i did follow the instructions on the page you linked
jnewt 2017-01-25 13:00:01
should it have purged something?
exad 2017-01-25 13:00:17
Ben64: 3300000 2900000 2300000 1700000 1400000
exad 2017-01-25 13:00:42
It wouldn't move past 1.7 until I turned off powersave
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:00:48
jnewt: sudo apt purge nvidia*
jnewt 2017-01-25 13:02:13
there we go
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:02:42
exad: you should check the bios to see if it's set properly
exad 2017-01-25 13:02:55
Ben64: it is, in windows it's recognized
meximelt 2017-01-25 13:02:55
hello
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:03:15
i didn't say windows, i said bios
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:03:54
you said bias?
exad 2017-01-25 13:03:55
in bios it shows 4.0 ghz
meximelt 2017-01-25 13:03:57
I'm having a problem with a server I'm running on virtualbox, I can access the server from my network, but the vm itself cannot access the internet. I have it set up as a bridged network and have tried adding a NAT adapter as a second adapter
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:04:22
jnewt: after that is done: sudo apt install nvidia-graphics-drivers-378
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:04:50
exad: 4ghz is the turbo frequency, it wouldn't be set to that
exad 2017-01-25 13:04:53
I overclocked.. decreased the multi, dropped ram freq, etc, increased fsb, then balanced off the frequencies of ram and nb and got it stable
exad 2017-01-25 13:05:22
but for some reason, this os won't detect it
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:05:44
you need to reinstall
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:06:05
HumanAI: please stop that not helpfull offtopic in here.
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:06:41
exad: sounds more like you underclocked
exad 2017-01-25 13:07:05
Ben64: nono, I just gave some slack to play with the fsb
exad 2017-01-25 13:07:14
then raised the ram and nb speeds back to stock
exad 2017-01-25 13:07:31
It's at 4ghz, I'm positive
meximelt 2017-01-25 13:07:33
oh wait wrong chat, I will try the vbox chat, thanks have a nice day
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:07:49
exad: if that was true, it'd be at 4ghz, and it's not so... it's not
exad 2017-01-25 13:08:09
lol Ben64 well it's not in linux but it is in the bios and windows!
exad 2017-01-25 13:08:18
are you trolling me? D:
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:08:22
i sai this channel shouldnt support overclocked machines its the same has asking for support for an unofficial deivative distro
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:08:39
nope, you're too sure of yourself to see the truth it seems
bazhang 2017-01-25 13:08:42

HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:08:49
if you overclock your basically on your own
bazhang 2017-01-25 13:09:04
HumanAI, please stop NOW
exad 2017-01-25 13:09:21
I was just hoping someone might know a way to force it to recognize it
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:09:39
it doesn't 'recognize' anything, it shows what it is
exad 2017-01-25 13:09:51
Ben64: why would my bios lie?
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:10:04
i'm guessing you're reading it improperly
exad 2017-01-25 13:10:11
Brb
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:10:24
if you overclock you are can run into al sorts of random issues
jnewt 2017-01-25 13:12:37
k1l_: nvidia-graphics-drivers-378 was not found, but nvidia-378 is installing. same thing right?
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:12:49
jnewt: yes
jnewt 2017-01-25 13:12:53
cool.
exad 2017-01-25 13:15:20
Ben64: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1RCvM7qJGJyXPe2ysnFkNz6Yt26fGWVJRUw
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:16:39
exad: need to see more
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:16:59
or you could set it all back to default and see if it goes to 3.5
jdm 2017-01-25 13:18:48
anyone have any advice on installing phpbb 3.2 on ubuntu 16.04? none of the documentation works and neither does the 3.02 repository install
jdm 2017-01-25 13:19:04
i get 404 not found when attempting to connect to http://mysite/phpbb3/install
exad 2017-01-25 13:19:33
hmmmm brb again
jdm 2017-01-25 13:20:11
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/phpbb3/+bug/1622728
ubottu 2017-01-25 13:20:14
Launchpad bug 1622728 in phpbb3 (Ubuntu) "PHP version conflict for PHPBB3 on Xenial" [Undecided,Confirmed]
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:21:56
so ubuntu supports dx12 api?
nacc 2017-01-25 13:22:44
jdm: heya -- is there a phbbb3 that does support php7?
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:22:57
jdm: yes, ubuntu switched to php7 with 16.04. is phpbb3 tied to the deprecated php version5?
jdm 2017-01-25 13:22:59
im looking into it now after reading that link
jdm 2017-01-25 13:23:14
the phpbb3 documentation is nearly useless
nacc 2017-01-25 13:23:20
jdm: looks like debian deleted it, as did ubuntu after 16.04 :/
nacc 2017-01-25 13:23:23
jdm: so probably not
jdm 2017-01-25 13:23:43
all the phpbb3 site says is PHP 5.4.0+
jdm 2017-01-25 13:23:52
which is obviously pretty vague
HumanAI 2017-01-25 13:23:56
svm_invictvs: may i call you patrick?
jdm 2017-01-25 13:24:36
any reason why they would drop support for phpbb3?
jdm 2017-01-25 13:24:43
other than it not supporting php 7.0
nacc 2017-01-25 13:25:05
jdm: let me find the bug
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:25:11
it doesn't have a great record of security
jdm 2017-01-25 13:25:19
[18:24:52] Our most recently releases version (3.2.0) does support PHP7 just fine.
jdm 2017-01-25 13:26:02
any reason why i would be getting an error 404 when attempting to connect to http://mysite/phpbb3/install and http://mysite/phpbb3/ as far as the apache configuration goes?
nacc 2017-01-25 13:27:29
jdm: yes, it was removed in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=816655, unmaintained and the version that was in debian/ubuntu did not support php7
ubottu 2017-01-25 13:27:30
Debian bug 816655 in ftp.debian.org "RM: phpbb3 -- ROM; PHP 7.0 Transition" [Normal,Open]
jdm 2017-01-25 13:28:08
are there any other repositories that have 3.2 in it?
nacc 2017-01-25 13:28:40
jdm: looks like i probably should have requested its deletion in 16.04, as well
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:28:42
jdm: look on launchpad for a PPA, or see if you install the software directly from the project
nacc 2017-01-25 13:28:47
jdm: you'd have to look in the PPAs or install from source
jdm 2017-01-25 13:28:50
do i need to add a virtual host specifically for phpbb3?
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:29:00
nacc: if it doesnt work with php7, yes
jdm 2017-01-25 13:29:03
ive got two domains assigned to one IP via apache virtual hosts
nacc 2017-01-25 13:29:14
jdm: it's easiest probably to just setup trusty in a container or VM, honestly
jdm 2017-01-25 13:29:14
both work just fine
exad 2017-01-25 13:29:23
setting it to stock, does show proper 3.5ghz. It appears that it doesn't read the fsb increase at all..
jdm 2017-01-25 13:29:42
im running 16.04 LTS
jdm 2017-01-25 13:29:51
in a DO droplet
nacc 2017-01-25 13:29:52
k1l_: yeah, not everything was easily testable (or had tests that would catch it) and the transition was something like 400+ packages :)
nacc 2017-01-25 13:30:15
k1l_: and unfortunately, cannot delete it from the release
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:30:22
exad: :)
nacc 2017-01-25 13:30:43
jdm: we can hope that someone does step up in Debian and then we could SRU a php7-compliant version back, but it seems sort of unlikely at this point
jdm 2017-01-25 13:31:08
any alternatives to phpbb3 that have the same layout?
exad 2017-01-25 13:31:15
Ben64: Are you still thinking I didn't have an overclock?
nacc 2017-01-25 13:31:18
jdm: you could file a bug in debian about that, and see if there are volunteers now that hte upstream is php7 compliant
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:31:21
exad: indeed
jdm 2017-01-25 13:31:24
i really dont want alot of white space considering it looks like shit
k1l_ 2017-01-25 13:31:33
jdm: you could ask the phpbb3 team if they want a fixed version back on ubuntu and debian and if they can maintain it
jdm 2017-01-25 13:31:39
which is what the other open source alternatives look like
jdm 2017-01-25 13:32:01
im in #phpbb now and am asking them
exad 2017-01-25 13:32:03
Ben64: I think linux is just stubbornly limiting the fsb to 200 on boot
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:32:08
exad: nope
nacc 2017-01-25 13:32:23
jdm: i'll subscribe to the bug and see what i can do
jdm 2017-01-25 13:32:43
the UI that phpbb3 looks nice
jdm 2017-01-25 13:32:51
professionally layed out and doesnt have alot of white space
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:32:57
you can install it from phpbb's site or a ppa
jdm 2017-01-25 13:33:10
i tried to install using their zip and tar and ma getting a 404
exad 2017-01-25 13:33:16
Ben64: Why would it show up everywhere else but here? not to mention, tested gains in speed
jdm 2017-01-25 13:33:18
the repository install i get a mysql error
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:33:24
jdm: then you picked the wrong directory
jdm 2017-01-25 13:33:28
when attempting to finish the install using /install
jdm 2017-01-25 13:33:37
i have it in /var/www/ and also placed it in /var/www/html
jdm 2017-01-25 13:33:44
still get a 404, am somewhat of an apache noob
exad 2017-01-25 13:33:58
I will just assume that rather than try to help you just want me to think I'm an idiot and give up
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:33:59
exad: maybe you just increased turbo speed
exad 2017-01-25 13:34:24
Ben64: I didn't, I set it all to manual :/
exad 2017-01-25 13:34:30
and increased the fsb
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:34:33
what is "it all"
exad 2017-01-25 13:34:34
Turned off turbo
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:34:43
ooh
exad 2017-01-25 13:34:44
turned off power management
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:35:07
i'd really recommend leaving all that on, and just pushing up the multiplier
exad 2017-01-25 13:35:44
Ben64: that way doesn't yeild as much gain in performance
exad 2017-01-25 13:36:20
Anyways, I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually
exad 2017-01-25 13:38:14
Finally I worded my search properly
exad 2017-01-25 13:38:26
Ben64: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OverclockingCpu :(
exad 2017-01-25 13:38:35
I was right but I lose anyway
Ben64 2017-01-25 13:39:23
how do you lose
exad 2017-01-25 13:39:34
because there doesn't look to be any tools for amd
jdm 2017-01-25 13:39:35
what about the 404 error and a misconfigured apache config?
jdm 2017-01-25 13:39:42
misconfigured on my part
