Hello, how I can listen for write on file which is type socket ? I tried tail ‑f /tmp/mysock but I got a no such device or address error. http://unix.stackexchange.com/q/106785
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:00:15
you can't.
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:00:26
the answers on that page explain why
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:00:37
basically, a socket isn't really a file.
dcassler 2017-01-30 14:02:12

For the last two versions of Ubuntu I've been having trouble with the keyboard freezing. I've tried wireless, wired, different brands and different USB ports. I have a wireless USB mouse and while the keyboard input is frozen, it still works fine. First the keyboard slows down, then stops, then the last x keys show up on screen but not all of them. Any ideas?
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:07:19

Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:13:07

Lavinho, hello
bazhang 2017-01-30 14:20:02
Lavinho, I need you to answer all of those three questions
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:20:07
language barrier is definitely making this more difficult than it needs to be
JohnDoe2 2017-01-30 14:20:11
PrincessBob the copy-paste between host and VM requires some kind of service running in the VM. I'd google how to install the "tool" package for the VM software you are using. And you did triple check that you have the right email and password, right? Do not rely on copy pasting that...
Lavinho 2017-01-30 14:20:31
What do I do ?
bazhang 2017-01-30 14:20:49

EmberCrest: If you always use the same mouse you could create a 'udev rule' that disables the touchpad once the USB mouse is connected.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:27:39
Yeah I do use the same mouse

minimec: surprised someone acc got back to me lmao
minimec 2017-01-30 14:28:55
EmberCrest: So first part would be to know, how to disable the touchpad with a terminal command..., like maybe 'synclient TouchpadOff=1'
j47d55e 2017-01-30 14:28:57
hi everybody
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:29:15
Yeah that works for my mouse
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:29:44
Wait no it doesnt.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:29:47
Just tried it out.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:29:49
:/
minimec 2017-01-30 14:31:20
EmberCrest: You can probably do this with 'xinput'. First type 'xinput' and identify the touchpad.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:31:51
well it's a synaptics touchpad..
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:32:05
so im not understanding why Synclient TouchpadOff=1 isn't working
minimec 2017-01-30 14:32:35
EmberCrest: Now with the device id you can probably do 'xinput set-prop "Device Enabled" 0
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:32:44
synclient says TouchpadOff=2
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:32:46
?_?
minimec 2017-01-30 14:33:32
EmberCrest: Try with xinput. It's 'driver agnostic'...
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:34:12
Ah wait I have TWO touchpads. DLL0704:01 06CB:76AE Touchpad
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:34:20
SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:34:36
im guessing the other one is virtual
Delphin 2017-01-30 14:35:21
Hi! is there a web interface for configuring VPN's on linux?
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:35:30
Ok sweet. Got it disabled.
avoider 2017-01-30 14:35:43

minimec 2017-01-30 14:35:51
EmberCrest: So in xinput I get '? ROCCAT ROCCAT Kone XTD id=11'. So to disable my mouse I would do 'xinput set-prop 11 "Device Enabled" 0'
citizen_ 2017-01-30 14:36:01
Guys I'm not liking MATE.
citizen_ 2017-01-30 14:36:03
Im going back to windows
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:36:04
Yeah I know how to do it dw
avoider 2017-01-30 14:36:04
How to i activate the wifi usb stick once i have it installed?
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:36:13
i was just perplexed that I have two touchpads
avoider 2017-01-30 14:36:24
i see its detecting the usb wifi, but i cant see how i can use it.
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:37:26
minimec: are those ID #'s guaranteed to persist after a reboot/restart of X?
avoider 2017-01-30 14:38:06
Any ideas pleasE?
minimec 2017-01-30 14:38:51
Sean_McG: I think they do, unless the desired device is a 'removable' device too, meaning you might plug it into a different usb port.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:39:01
Yeah it is removable.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:39:07
but i try to put it into the same port each time.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:39:12
but w.e. I'll just manually do it, it's fine.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:39:28
Just kinda nice to have that with Windows.
minimec 2017-01-30 14:39:32
EmberCrest: But the touchpad is not removable, so it will always have the same ID.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:39:47
^^ yeah but I'd have to iterate over each USB port if I wrote a rule
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:40:33
I mean really im a traitor to ubuntu, I only dual-boot for work.
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:40:37
Not on principle :D
minimec 2017-01-30 14:41:03
EmberCrest: You will recognize the mouse with its device ID, wich is alwys the same. You can check that with 'lsusb' My Roccat Krone would be '1e7d:2e22'
minimec 2017-01-30 14:41:59
EmberCrest: Now you will have to create a udev rule that handles plug/unplug of your mouse and disables/enables the touchpad accordingly.
minimec 2017-01-30 14:42:45
EmberCrest: something like this... http://granjow.net/udev-rules.html
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:43:28
hm ok. maybe ill try it, I dunno. im allowing myself to be distracted by this issue at htis point, I got real work to do
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:43:32
but one more question I had
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:43:48
Does anyone know if it's possible to make calls using an iPhone over bluetooth in ubuntu
EmberCrest 2017-01-30 14:44:30
like is that something that Ubuntu could POTENTIALLY support assuming that my hardware actually supports it
Sean_McG 2017-01-30 14:45:04
kind of doubt it, seems like the sort of thing Apple would prevent you from doing
