nacc 2017-01-27 10:50:56

rifter 2017-01-27 10:54:56
dSaXXonP, we see you .. do you have a question?
dSaXXonP 2017-01-27 10:55:09
no
Herbalist 2017-01-27 10:55:18
i still use the Ubuntu Software Center regularly .. it works fine and it was recently updated
dSaXXonP 2017-01-27 10:55:22
thx
rifter 2017-01-27 10:55:25
really, groundze2o ? Do you have the latest WINE? What is not working?
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 10:56:21
nacc i think i installed it incorectly then
FMan 2017-01-27 10:57:03
Chrome has become unresponsive!!
OerHeks 2017-01-27 10:57:12
softwarecenter gives metapackages, synaptic is more detailed
rifter 2017-01-27 10:57:23
I am on a new install of lubuntu 16.10 .. I want to install 32 bit libraries so I can install something that requires them. That used to be simple, but when I tried on xubuntu 14.04 I ran into roadblocks. Now that I have a more recent version, I am hoping to revisit this problem and get it going
Herbalist 2017-01-27 10:58:03
yes but Synaptic requires password to open .. so i only use it in cases of emergency
rifter 2017-01-27 10:58:35
OerHeks, I'm a big fan of synaptic as well. I usually use command line apt, but I use synaptic to update the kernel and to search for stuff when it takes me too many tries to find it in apt-cache search
OerHeks 2017-01-27 10:58:37
password in advance, indeed.
piano-novice 2017-01-27 10:58:51
-Onepamopa- when I try /msg NickServ REGISTER bar foo@bar.com with my choice of pword and my email address, I get from NickServ: piano-novice is already registered.
rifter 2017-01-27 10:59:08
Software Center doesn't need authentication? That sounds like a security problem to me
Herbalist 2017-01-27 10:59:19
piano i also have that same problem with my nick Herbalist !
OerHeks 2017-01-27 10:59:30
rifter, it does, after selecting a package
EriC^^ 2017-01-27 10:59:39
piano-novice: check your email for the verification code
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 10:59:42
nacc i can't find the software app.. isn't it sudo apt-get install gnome-software ?
rifter 2017-01-27 10:59:45
piano-novice, you'll get better help for that in #freenode .. type /j #freenode to go there
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 10:59:50
nacc i mean the software install link
rifter 2017-01-27 11:00:00
oh right yeah check for that
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:00:46
it's a orange suitcase with a white letter A inside
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:02:02
the gnome one ?
groundze2o 2017-01-27 11:02:25
rifter world of tanks..downloads everything but won't start
groundze2o 2017-01-27 11:02:40
i downloaded 2.x wine trough playonlinux
rifter 2017-01-27 11:03:48
groundze2o, you may want to check WINE 's AppDB .. that site tends to have things that you need to do. I have historically used just wine as opposed to PlayonLinux .. winetricks is a package you are gonna want to have too
piano-novice 2017-01-27 11:03:50
-rifter- Thanks for the advice. I did not find any msg with a verification code in my email but may have missed it. I'll try joining freenode.
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:03:50
Americanu_ubuntu.. try this command: sudo apt-get install software-center*
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:04:04
with asterisk
rifter 2017-01-27 11:04:08
although usually I would use a PPA for WINE and download the latest winetricks
EriC^^ 2017-01-27 11:04:08
piano-novice: check your junk mail
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:04:35
hearbalist , what does the asterisk do?and it says that it's already installed
nicomachus 2017-01-27 11:04:48
nautilus won't open...
groundze2o 2017-01-27 11:05:19
so uninstall playonlinux? rifter
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:05:30
asterisk means any string
nicomachus 2017-01-27 11:05:35
and there's no verbose option to get error messages from terminal output. urgh.
rifter 2017-01-27 11:05:45
groundze2o, https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=11544 https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=31627
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:05:51
so all packages beginning with that name are installed
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:06:05
aaah
piano-novice 2017-01-27 11:06:06
-EriC- I don't strip out junk mail so I should have seen any marked as junk
rifter 2017-01-27 11:06:12
nah you don't have to uninstall it. PlayonLinux as I recall just tries to make it easier for a novice to use WINE
Bray90820 2017-01-27 11:06:22
What would be a good way to automatically change permissions of a file I am thinking a bash script with chmod
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:06:34
strange :/ then probably it's already installed
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:06:35
Americanu_ubuntu.. check this site: https://launchpad.net/software-center
Herbalist 2017-01-27 11:07:05
latest download version is 13.10 .. on the right
rifter 2017-01-27 11:07:16
Bray90820, that would probably work .. how automatically you want it to be will determine how you write it
tatertots 2017-01-27 11:07:55
Bryanstein: how about making sure the file is created with the desired permissions from conception.......
tatertots 2017-01-27 11:08:23
Bryanstein: then no modification would be required
Bray90820 2017-01-27 11:08:34
rifter: Basically I just wanted "chmod 755 /media/data/Recorded_TV" to happen every dat at like 10PM so would I just write a bash script and put it in crom?
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:08:58
aah thanks
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:09:17
is there a way to delete/uninstall the curent package so that i can reinstall the website one?
nacc 2017-01-27 11:09:52
Herbalist: i have no idea what you're talking about, but that is absolutely incorrect
nacc 2017-01-27 11:10:04
Herbalist: 13.10 was release in *2013* and is not current, by any means
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:10:19
really? ohh
nacc 2017-01-27 11:10:19

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:10:40

nacc 2017-01-27 11:10:54

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:11:05

nacc 2017-01-27 11:11:24

nacc 2017-01-27 11:11:30

heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:11:39
Americanu_ubuntu, the software you can pull depends on the repositories you have configured

heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:12:40
Americanu_ubuntu, if it's installed, you can check the version with $ dpkg -l | grep gnome-software
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:12:41
nacc you said that i should use a gnome software center earlier
jackNemrod 2017-01-27 11:12:44

nacc: "You asked 577 Mb to be used for guided partitionning, but the selected partitionning requires at least 5.1Gb"
nacc 2017-01-27 11:23:35

k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:24:11
nacc: uh. wasnt that just switched to in favor of the old ubuntu-software-center ?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:24:43
Americanu_ubuntu, just for reference $ gnome-software does start up fine here
nacc 2017-01-27 11:25:03
k1l_: src:software-center is "Ubuntu Softare Center"; src:gnome-software is the supported, preferred, "Gnome Software"
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:25:11
heathenwolfe, on my system it doesnt start at all :( am i the only one unlucky
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:26:03

heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:27:33
Americanu_ubuntu, I'm using livecd, just one file ubuntu-reviews.db
nacc 2017-01-27 11:27:44
k1l_: oh i see it now, you're right, 'software center' has been fully removed and now there are the two both provided by src:gnome-software
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:28:00
heathenwolfe, hmmm so why isnt it starting ?
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:28:08
Americanu_ubuntu: mv ~/.local/share/gnome-software/install-queue ~/.local/share/gnome-software/install-queue.old
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:29:25
Americanu_ubuntu: after that try again to open it
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:29:26

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:29:43
k1l_, "mv: cannot stat '/home/americanu/.local/share/gnome-software/install-queue': No such file or directory
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:29:43

heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:30:27

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:31:00
heathenwolfe hmmm should i rename it then
heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:31:22
Americanu_ubuntu, mv is for renaming...
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:31:32
Americanu_ubuntu: hmm, i dont know what broken there
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:31:58

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:32:35

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:32:40

Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:35:59
i had an linux distro years ago and it moved so slow because of my shitty pc specs, i just quit to try it
heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:36:25
Americanu_ubuntu, did you try mv'ing stuff already in Ubuntu?
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:36:53
heathenwolfe, mv-ing ? like renaming?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:37:13
Americanu_ubuntu, yes, or does the error only happen on the install-queue file?
barnito 2017-01-27 11:37:39
going to try ubuntu under windows
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:37:41
heathenwolfe, well i didnt rename anything, like i said, i didnt get to use ubuntu since last night when internet got sorted
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:37:43
well, looks like the gnome software center doesnt like the packagekit usage? i dont know. looks like this bug was triggered: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1606238
ubottu 2017-01-27 11:37:44
Launchpad bug 1606238 in gnome-software (Ubuntu) "gnome-software won't open" [Critical,Triaged]
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:38:36
heathenwolfe: its a bug for this gnome software which cant handle when its losing internet connection.
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:38:41
k1l_, that's what happened on my side too, launcher reacted on it when i clicked but nothing happened, and in terminal it gave no feedback on gnome-software
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:39:11
Americanu_ubuntu: should be sorted now
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:39:54
yeah cheers again guys :D
nacc 2017-01-27 11:40:17
jackNemrod: i wonder if you're not clearing the disks during the install, so it's only using whatever free space remains on them as currently formatted?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-27 11:43:09
Americanu_ubuntu, congrats, maybe this one was due to yesterday's connectivity issues?
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:43:24
heathenwolfe, probably to be honest lol, i dont know
jackNemrod 2017-01-27 11:43:55
nacc: the VM is fresh
Americanu_ubuntu 2017-01-27 11:43:58
heathenwolfe, you and k1l_ know the better reason , i was just doing the stuff you two told me
k1l_ 2017-01-27 11:44:46
heathenwolfe: yes, the gnome software seems to have issues with not working or closing internetconnections.
