cotin, i'd recommand you to try what fits your needs and dive into it to make it secure if you plan to use it online
groundze2o 2017-01-27 08:46:24
k1l_: i guess so..it was automatically installed in the driver section..right?
k1l_ 2017-01-27 08:46:49
groundze2o: you have to chose it in the driver section, yes.
groundze2o 2017-01-27 08:47:14
doing it right now..
groundze2o 2017-01-27 08:47:39
i hope it won't break my machine..i wasn't able to run any linux distro until 16.10 ubuntu..
humbertl1 2017-01-27 08:49:39
hi
humbertl1 2017-01-27 08:50:32
how you
qwxlea 2017-01-27 08:51:53
trying to find who is responsible for my dns addresses on ubuntu 16.10: not resolv.conf, but where?
ppf 2017-01-27 08:52:13
dnsmasq
ppf 2017-01-27 08:52:16
via network manager
qwxlea 2017-01-27 08:52:57
ppf: dnsmasq config is also empty, network manager, where can i find its config?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 08:53:27
ppf: /etc/networkmanager :-) oeps
ppf 2017-01-27 08:53:33
/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d
ash_workz 2017-01-27 08:53:41
is it silly to split your public and member areas of a website across 2 servers? perhaps for security reasons?
bombsl 2017-01-27 08:55:40
does any one have any idea how can i decode this ? : swi&CNJCtKVbCyyAmNG8PqFZsYpyXegEQRGt
gusgg_ 2017-01-27 08:55:51
can I apt-get autoremove only a specific package? It's not the same as purging, because if there's still a dependency on a package, I don't want to be able to purge it
k1l_ 2017-01-27 08:56:13
bombsl: is this ubuntu related?
Dave_Elec 2017-01-27 08:56:16
Hey guys does anyone know how to setup oculus development kit on ubuntu?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 08:56:31
ppf: also empty /etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d so weird
ppf 2017-01-27 08:57:00
pgrep -a -f dnsmasq
ppf 2017-01-27 08:58:35
qwxlea: what exactly are you trying to do?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 08:59:11
ppf: change my dns server to something else
ppf 2017-01-27 08:59:31
how are you configuring your interfaces?
ppf 2017-01-27 08:59:34
networkmanager?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:00:06
trying opendns, googledns and opennicproject.org
ppf 2017-01-27 09:00:45
is it networkmanager or /etc/interfaces*?
groundze2o 2017-01-27 09:01:14
alright..updated kernel..changed driver..hopefully WOT on playonlinux will work now
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:01:32
ppf: networkmanager, which means it gets it from my router i suppose
ppf 2017-01-27 09:01:47
sure. right click the icon, Edit Connections
ppf 2017-01-27 09:01:58
on the ipv4 tab you can specify dns servers
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:02:44
ppf: that was embarrassingly simple
ppf 2017-01-27 09:02:50
)
ppf 2017-01-27 09:02:52
:)
cotin 2017-01-27 09:02:54
Amm0n my server will only be used for testing and developing different websites before being pushed to another webserver.
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:02:58
hi
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:03:07
anyone know why i'm having this problem? http://paste.ubuntu.com/23876698/
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:03:44
ppf: still, i would prefer to set my dnsmasq settings, i'll google that first ;-)
ppf 2017-01-27 09:05:12
why?
ppf 2017-01-27 09:05:27
the relevant dnsmasq instance is created/managed by networkmanager
ppf 2017-01-27 09:05:38
which adds itself into your /etc/resolv.conf
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:06:20
mrhubrisje: looks like its this issue: http://superuser.com/a/949768
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:06:34
ppf: which means i have to change every wireless connection i User__
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:06:45
sorry, use
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:07:01
mrhubrisje: or use sudo to manage the mysql
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:07:13
k1l_, I'll have a look at your link first
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:07:17
thanks
ppf 2017-01-27 09:07:33
qwxlea: you can put stuff into resolv.conf
wedgie 2017-01-27 09:07:58
sure, but it'll likely get clobbered in short order
ppf 2017-01-27 09:08:16
qwxlea: i.e., add nameserver entries to /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:08:49
ppf: thanks, reading...
arulmozhi 2017-01-27 09:10:07
can I live boot ubuntu 16.04 with usb to hdmi adapter, because I don't have display port on motherboard (asrock fatal1ty x99) and I acannot afford a graphics card at the moment?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:10:24
ppf: DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND all in capitals, somebody is serious about that...
ppf 2017-01-27 09:10:42
qwxlea: yes, ignore that :D
ppf 2017-01-27 09:10:57
the files in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d are used to make /etc/resolv.conf
ppf 2017-01-27 09:11:04
the warning is meant for that
arulmozhi 2017-01-27 09:11:28
hi can I live boot ubuntu 16.04 with usb to hdmi adapter, because I don't have display port on motherboard (asrock fatal1ty x99) and I acannot afford a graphics card at the moment?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:12:05
ppf: ah, ok ... trying
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:12:29
k1l_, for starters it's impossible to get into the whole thing
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:12:49
it's asking for a password that i should have set when installing. Only, i didn't
thething_911 2017-01-27 09:13:31
hey, had a look around but I can't find anything about my bluetooth, thing just keeps spinning, looking for devices. In order to progress to the next setup step, I need it to stop, but clicking on a list item doesn't seem to do anything. Anyone had this? Know where I should start poking around? Never really touched the BT before
Herbalist 2017-01-27 09:14:33
when i want to Shutdown the computer i have to: 1) click on the "Shutdown..." menu, then a Dialog appears and i have to 2) click on the Shutdown button, then the Login window appears and 3) i have to again select the "Shutdown..." menu, then another Dialog pops up and 4) i have to again click on the Shutdown button .. only then does the computer finally shut down
ppf 2017-01-27 09:15:14
Herbalist: type systemctl poweroff
Herbalist 2017-01-27 09:15:22
ppf thank you
Herbalist 2017-01-27 09:15:29
in the terminal ?
ppf 2017-01-27 09:15:34
yes
ppf 2017-01-27 09:15:48
or in that command launcher thing, does that still exist in unity?
ppf 2017-01-27 09:15:52
alt+f2 or so?
tomreyn 2017-01-27 09:16:00
looks like he already succeeded
ppf 2017-01-27 09:16:06
:D
PipeItToDevNull 2017-01-27 09:16:12
Just "poweroff" should suffice
ppf 2017-01-27 09:16:16
i'm not seeing quit messages ...
tomreyn 2017-01-27 09:16:36
his "Remote host closed the connection"
ppf 2017-01-27 09:16:54
I just hope his question wasn't 'how do i configure shutdown'
tomreyn 2017-01-27 09:17:18
:)
ppf 2017-01-27 09:17:18
PipeItToDevNull: yeah, that's an alias for systemctl poweroff
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:18:25
mrhubrisje: sudo mysql -u root
Herbalist 2017-01-27 09:19:08
lol ppf .. i typed your command then the computer shut down at once :))
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:19:10
k1l_, ERROR 1698 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:19:32
mrhubrisje: exactly that command?
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:19:53
mrhubrisje: and you had mysql running before on that machine. so did you forget that passwort?
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:19:55
fyi, yes
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:19:59
nope
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:20:00
ppf: hmm, cannot restart dnsmasq: "Job for dnsmasq.service failed...etc" which leads to: "dnsmasq: directory /etc/resolv.conf for resolv-file is missing, cannot poll"
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:20:03
new install
ppf 2017-01-27 09:20:04
Herbalist: i hope that was what you intended :)
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:20:08
never set a password
Herbalist 2017-01-27 09:20:09
hehehe
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:20:23
i just ran this command: sudo mysql_secure_installation
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:20:25
mrhubrisje: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MysqlPasswordReset
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:20:34
and set a password
mrhubrisje 2017-01-27 09:21:05
same thing happens with both sudo mysql -u root and sudo mysql -u root -p
ppf 2017-01-27 09:21:30
qwxlea: /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink. what did you do exactly?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:23:48
ppf: i added "nameserver 8.8.8.8" to /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:24:22
the tried: sudo service dnsmasq restart
darek 2017-01-27 09:24:38
test
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:24:56
now dnsmasq is failed, (dns still works, though)
ppf 2017-01-27 09:25:48
what ubuntu are you on?
distortedvoice 2017-01-27 09:26:04
hoary hedgehog
gusgg_ 2017-01-27 09:26:04
I'm checking out a list of packages that apt-get autoremove shows, and running apt-cache rdepends --installed on them, and finding reverse dependencies that are installed, like compiz. compiz is marked auto, but I'm pretty sure something that depends on compiz is not marked auto....
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:26:13
ppf: 16.10
gusgg_ 2017-01-27 09:26:32
for example, unity
Ayukawa 2017-01-27 09:26:43
Trying to set apache to automatically start on boot in ubuntu server 16.04LTS, but all I get this http://paste.ubuntu.com/23876823/ . Any suggestions?
ppf 2017-01-27 09:27:03
i don't have a dnsmasq.service on my system. where's this from?
ppf 2017-01-27 09:27:47
probably don't have dnsmasq installed
ppf 2017-01-27 09:27:56
just try reboot?
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:29:23
ppf: that sounds like a terrible solution ... let's try
fedecupe 2017-01-27 09:30:02
Good evening, I'm looking for help on this matter (displaylink drive with kernel 4.9) http://askubuntu.com/questions/874558/cant-install-displaylink-driver-with-current-kernel
qwxlea 2017-01-27 09:33:55
ppf: dns works, that is nice. dnsmasq refuses to start, but it obviously not being used
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:38:00
fedecupe: what if you add the "KVER=4.9" to that file manually?
fedecupe 2017-01-27 09:39:31
kil_ could try, but that is inside a .run
fedecupe 2017-01-27 09:42:43
k1l_ could try, but that is inside a .run, if i open it and look for "KVER" I can't find it :(
ppf 2017-01-27 09:43:01
qwxlea: dnsmasq itself is something different. it's a standalone dns and dhcp server
ppf 2017-01-27 09:43:29
but networkmanager is providing an instance by itself, so no need to run it manually
k1l_ 2017-01-27 09:44:41
fedecupe: i think you will have to deal with the display link guys with that
