alias_neo: is the card installed in the box now?
alias_neo 2017-01-27 04:46:32
tatertots: Yes
tatertots 2017-01-27 04:46:49
alias_neo: sudo apt install inxi pastebinit
tatertots 2017-01-27 04:48:50
alias_neo: let me know when it's installed
alias_neo 2017-01-27 04:49:12
sure, one moment, need to get a network connection up
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:49:46
hi. i use lvm on top of dmcrypt-luks on top of mdadm raid-1's, and run into timeouts while rebooting: http://i.imgur.com/jdqU3NI.png
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:50:18
that's on 16.04.1 with all updates installed, no 3rd party packages
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:50:28
I'm about to buy a new laptop, and I was curious if anyone here could help me figure out (before I buy it) if it'll run kubuntu. http://pricecat.be/en_sg/p/asus/90nb0bh2-m09330/4712900540451-R558UQ-DM741T-33280611.html
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:51:03
has anyone else run into these timeouts?
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:53:01
also "stoppping" (3 'p') ooks like a typo to me :)
ppf 2017-01-27 04:55:04
tomreyn: do those occur on every shutdown?
ppf 2017-01-27 04:55:28
it's a somewhat known problem with systemd
ppf 2017-01-27 04:55:38
is one of those volumes your swap?
digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:56:24
RWOverdijk, that system should do fine. I can't see any reason it wouldn't.
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:56:24
ppf: yes, and yes. but *i think* it only started recently, so *i assume* it was likely introduced by an update.
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:56:48
digbychicken, Thank you. I'm sorry, I can be a bit of a... chicken
digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:56:48
RWOverdijk, minimum/recommended kubuntu requirements here: http://askubuntu.com/a/333864
alias_neo 2017-01-27 04:56:50
tatertots: ok, they're installed
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:57:11
digbychicken, yeah, this is... this is better. I'm pretty sure I can run it :p
ppf 2017-01-27 04:57:30
tomreyn: it's possible that this is a memory issue. if you're deactivating swap, swapped contents need to be migrated back into memory. if that's out of space then swapoff fails and dm-crypt will timeout
digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:57:46
RWOverdijk, I've installed kubuntu on much less and it's done great.
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:58:04
digbychicken, To be honest I was aiming more towards drivers and stuff
ppf 2017-01-27 04:58:06
at least that's a theory i discussed with the systemd people couple months backl
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:58:12
I've had a lot of issues with wifi, display etc in the past
tomreyn 2017-01-27 04:58:24
ppf: this system has ~ 30 GB unallocated RAM available in standard operation. swap is smaller than that.

digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:59:03
RWOverdijk, I haven't had an issue w/ drivers on Asus systems.
ppf 2017-01-27 04:59:07
tomreyn: hm
ppf 2017-01-27 04:59:20
tomreyn: i have no other idea, then. if you figure it out, though, let me know!
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 04:59:35
digbychicken, alright then. Thank you :)
digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:59:36
RWOverdijk, the only thing you might have to do is install the NVidia drivers (if you get the model w/ a dedicated NVidia card)
ppf 2017-01-27 04:59:37
maybe show that to #systemd directly?
digbychicken 2017-01-27 04:59:54
RWOverdijk, but it will run w/ the open source drivers until you do
RWOverdijk 2017-01-27 05:01:05
digbychicken, Awesome, thanks for the heads up :)
tomreyn 2017-01-27 05:03:11
ppf: actually i was mistaken, sorry, there is no swap configured.
tomreyn 2017-01-27 05:03:55
but i guess this doesn't change things.
tomreyn 2017-01-27 05:04:44
ppf: since you point out it is a known issue / shortcoming of systemd, are you aware of any bug reports on it? i searched the web but could not find anything matching this specific issue.
tatertots 2017-01-27 05:07:33
alias_neo: i'm going for coffee bbiab

alias_neo 2017-01-27 05:08:54
tatertots: no problem, also, I'm not sure the info is useful, the card isn't mentioned, and the rest of the system spec is irrelevent (mostly) as it's not the server the card will sit in eventually, it's a workstation I'm on while setting up
tatertots 2017-01-27 05:10:46
alias_neo: it's mainly to check your os version details and minors, but mostly to check your aptitude in getting support info to me in a timely manner
tatertots 2017-01-27 05:10:58
alias_neo: bbiab
