Guest44676 2017-01-27 01:49:29
TvL2386, can you download it for me please?
Guest44676 2017-01-27 01:50:45
hey there?
neure 2017-01-27 02:11:44
hello
neure 2017-01-27 02:11:47
anyone used clang 5?
tarzeau_ 2017-01-27 02:12:14
do you use gnustep? or swift?
deus402 2017-01-27 02:16:16
so i'm trying to get this bash script to work, and i can't quite figure out what i'm doing wrong. i'm trying to read in all files matching a glob to an array, then modify the filenames and copy them to another array. i need to be able to deal with spaces in the filenames. i'm sure i just have my syntax wrong somewhere, but i haven't done and shell scripting in years. here is what i have with
deus402 2017-01-27 02:16:16
output: https://paste.ubuntu.com/23874577/
deus402 2017-01-27 02:18:41
and here is what i get if i remove the quotes around my glob: https://paste.ubuntu.com/23874628/
deus402 2017-01-27 02:18:45
so i must be close.
sachin 2017-01-27 02:19:27
Hello, I am thinking to use only console mode and start GUI only when I want to, I looked up for tutorial and found that they aren't working on 16.04. How can I boot into console mode only?
Southern_Gentlem 2017-01-27 02:20:42
going to test that
ioria 2017-01-27 02:22:11
sachin, sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target (reverse with sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target)
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:22:38
deus402, what are you really trying to accomplish?
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:23:01
deus402, it may be me, but I don't see it
deus402 2017-01-27 02:23:29
basically trying to add the word test before the file extension on each file in the example
sachin 2017-01-27 02:23:38
then I will be able to boot to console next time I reboot?
deus402 2017-01-27 02:23:44
so blah.mp4 becomes blah.test.mp4
ioria 2017-01-27 02:23:47
yup
k1l_ 2017-01-27 02:24:07
sachin: yes, its like the kernel mode "text" before. (which doesnt work since systemd anymore)
Southern_Gentlem 2017-01-27 02:24:40
sachin take a look at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SysVinit_to_Systemd_Cheatsheet
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:26:43
deus402, export file="song.mp4"
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:26:49
deus402, echo "${file%.*}.test.${file##*.}"
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:29:04
deus402, I would do something like: ls *.mp4 | while read file ; do mv "$file" "${file%.*}.test.${file##*.}" ; done
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:29:14
deus402, _UNTESTED_
deus402 2017-01-27 02:29:27
1) never parse ls
deus402 2017-01-27 02:29:56
2) i need to do a lot more stuff to the files besides rename them, hence i need a list of them in an array
KristijanZic 2017-01-27 02:30:36
#bhyve
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:31:41
deus402, then I cannot help you... Whenever I need to do advanced stuff, I'm doing it in ruby or python and not bash
deus402 2017-01-27 02:32:12
k, thanks for trying
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:32:16
yw!
deus402 2017-01-27 02:32:39
for the record, your command does give the output i want, but does not work with the arrays.
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:33:00
deus402, I haven't given up yet :)
deus402 2017-01-27 02:33:21
heh, me either.
deus402 2017-01-27 02:33:42
probably not to late to just ditch my bash script and learn python, heh.
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:34:03
I'm gonna get there
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:34:10
give me a few minutes :)
ioria 2017-01-27 02:36:44
deus402, rename files ? like pip.mp4 to pip.test.mp4 ?
deus402 2017-01-27 02:37:48
not rename the files, change the filename and store it in a different array.
ioria 2017-01-27 02:37:49
deus402, you can try this : rename 's/\.mp4$/.test.mp4/' *
ioria 2017-01-27 02:38:00
deus402, oh
deus402 2017-01-27 02:38:17
it's the array that's messing me up.
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:39:13
deus402, https://gist.github.com/TvL2386/1384eaec3dd2bbeeb7dcbfbbd35f1d34
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:39:36
cheating though, because it's not in place like you tried
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:39:53
also changed the output looping
k1l_ 2017-01-27 02:41:19
deus402: for mode extensive bash scripting i would ask in #bash
deus402 2017-01-27 02:41:31
roger.
deus402 2017-01-27 02:41:40
Thanks TvL2386
TvL2386 2017-01-27 02:41:57
deus402, yw, if I do find something more cooler, don't hesitate to ping me :)
zerous 2017-01-27 02:43:17
