Americanu 2017-01-26 11:45:05
heathenwolfe: any ideas what else i can do ?
k1l 2017-01-26 11:46:09
Mister: please open a terminal and run "lscpu | nc termbin.com 9999" that will output a url, please show that here
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:48:26
Americanu, well first of all let's take a step back & see what's happening.
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:48:43
Americanu, $ ip addr, check that enp3s0 has an ipv4 address
OerHeks 2017-01-26 11:49:11
Americanu, you did edit /etc/network/interfaces ?? change it back perhaps?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:50:09
Americanu, OerHeks, well i guess he has some interference between /interfaces & networkmanager, but either should be able to grab at least an ip address if they are configured correctly
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:50:17
OerHeks: ill change it back in a bit and heathenwolfe enp3s0 has the physical adress corectly (the one w10 has)
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:51:18
Heathenwolfe ts like and ipv6 i think , i mean the ip
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:52:06
Heathenwolfe similar to f3:45:45:26:4a:57
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:52:59
Americanu, as long as it says "scope link/host" next to ipv6 no worries
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:54:04
Heathenwolfe Oh ok it does, link/ether
Mister 2017-01-26 11:54:06
I entered in the command and it gave me a bunch of options.
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:54:20
What next
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:54:25
Americanu, check your default route via $ ip route
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:54:55
Americanu, it should say default via xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (your router ip)
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:55:16
Doesnt prompt anything as if its an empty command
k1l 2017-01-26 11:55:47
Mister: just copy and paste "lscpu | nc termbin.com 9999" into terminal
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:56:39
Americanu, hm... the command runs fine in my 16.04 livecd
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:57:04
https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/pVT9NKcC/irccloudcapture-41523720.jpg
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:57:20
Ip route , nothing , not even an error
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:57:31
Americanu, $ echo $?
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:57:45
Heathenwolfe sorry i keep forgetting to mention your name
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:58:10
Nothing , empty box
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:58:10
Americanu, yeah no worries it's just so other people in the channel know who you're talking with, there are other convo's here at the same time
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 11:58:32
Americanu, $ echo $? should give the exit code of the last run command (ip route), should be 0 or 1
Mister 2017-01-26 11:59:00
Should I remove the spaces or anything? I've typed it in manually and it didn't give me a URL, with and without the quotations
Mister 2017-01-26 11:59:42
I was missing the extra 9
Mister 2017-01-26 11:59:44
I have it now.
k1l 2017-01-26 11:59:50
Mister: that sign is a pipe: | not a L or smething
Americanu 2017-01-26 11:59:59

gustavohmsilva_ 2017-01-26 12:00:02
hi guys... is there a way to change my pc from uefi to bios AFTER installing ubuntu?
k1l 2017-01-26 12:00:14
Mister: ok, please copy the url into here
gustavohmsilva_ 2017-01-26 12:00:24
virtualbox is giving me problems with the dammt uefi
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:00:28
Oh btw is it safe to share the ubuntu user name ?
Mister 2017-01-26 12:00:29

Mister 2017-01-26 12:00:30

k1l 2017-01-26 12:01:19
Mister: ok, that is a 64bit cpu
Mister 2017-01-26 12:02:05
So I'm able to download the 64 bit Linux distribution system?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:02:14
Americanu, http://paste.ubuntu.com/23871761/
k1l 2017-01-26 12:02:14
Mister: what is the outpu of "uname -a"?
Mister 2017-01-26 12:02:27
I'll type that in.
Mister 2017-01-26 12:02:53
Linux linux-laptop 4.4.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 13 00:06:14 UTC 2016 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux
zuiss1 2017-01-26 12:03:08
anyone know why the ubuntu installer gives an option to use the whole disk and set up encrypted lvm, but then later in the installation process it asks you if you want to encrypt your home directory? why does it ask you that if you already chose encryption earlier?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:03:18
Americanu, well that's the issue there isn't any route to forward the traffic to so that's why you can't access the internet
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:03:21
heathenwolfe: did you open terminal with some permissions ? Sudo su?
k1l 2017-01-26 12:03:27
Mister: ok, that is a 32bit OS on a 64bit cpu. i would recommend a reinstall if you start new anyway
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:03:33
Americanu, nope just normal user
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:03:44
Americanu, try as root
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:03:48
heathenwolfe: right how csn i fix this
Mister 2017-01-26 12:03:51
How do I reinstall?
Mister 2017-01-26 12:03:55
Off of the internet?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:04:07
Americanu, okay try to comment the stuff you put in /etc/network/interfaces
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:04:14
Heathenwolfe nope , stil the same
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:04:51
Americanu, the default there is just one comment line and 2 lines for auto lo loopback
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:04:55
Heathenwolfe done
k1l 2017-01-26 12:05:01
Mister: download the 64bit 16.04 LTS iso from the ubuntu.com webpage. then you have the iso and you start the usb-creator program and "burn" that onto a usb pendrive. after that you boot that usb and start the installer.
OerHeks 2017-01-26 12:05:01
Mister, download the iso, burn it on dvd or use an USB device, and boot/install
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:05:17
Americanu, # systemctl restart networking
Mister 2017-01-26 12:05:32
Do I type in boot/install in the command
Mister 2017-01-26 12:05:43
Or is it an option I can just clock on?
elisa87 2017-01-26 12:06:00
please have a look at this question http://askubuntu.com/questions/876282/how-to-play-avi-file-from-a-remotely-connected-ubuntu-with-x-flag-without-dro

heathenwolfe: right so i commented all the lines with # and issued the command , what now ?:)
Mister 2017-01-26 12:06:40
Thank you guys for your help. Thanks a bunch k1l.
Mister 2017-01-26 12:06:44
I'm going to try to do this.
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:06:49
Americanu, for good measure # systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
Mister 2017-01-26 12:06:54
It's all a bit confusing the first time.
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:06:58
Americanu, then check # ip addr and # ip route
k1l 2017-01-26 12:07:28
Mister: i dont know why that guy installed 32bit in first place
OerHeks 2017-01-26 12:07:30
elisa87, "How to open a .avi video from a -X ssh session?"i think you can not, no playhing video over ssh.
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:07:38
Ip addr is same and ip route is stil not working heathenwolfe
Mister 2017-01-26 12:07:41
Idk, maybe he doesn't like me.
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:07:53
Americanu, okay, then i have 2 interfaces when using $ nmcli con show
elisa87 2017-01-26 12:07:57
OerHeks: it plays .mov files
OerHeks 2017-01-26 12:08:21
elisa87, .mov over ssh? really?
Mister 2017-01-26 12:08:29
What is the USB-Creator program? Is it on here?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:08:49
Uhm i think i have one ccalled ice and one ethernet connectin
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:08:56
Americanu, disregard last thing i said, that was wrong
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:08:56
Mister rufus?
Mister 2017-01-26 12:09:11
I need to find a USB drive.
k1l 2017-01-26 12:09:23
Mister: search for "usb creator"
k1l 2017-01-26 12:09:31
Mister: on the program launcher
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:09:43
Americanu, okay let's try to get NM running now
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:10:12
heathenwolfe: well lets see. Hopefully its gonna be fast hah
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:10:51
Americanu, does it show no entry for device enp3s0 in $nmcli con show ?
elisa87 2017-01-26 12:10:54
yes OerHeks
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:11:17
So the device row has --
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:11:22
Like two dashes
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:12:01
Wait sorry... The "ice" that i was saying was the rest of the word of device
OerHeks 2017-01-26 12:12:12
if one gets a .mov to play over ssh, why would .avi be different? i never got it to work anyway, 'encrypted' movie over lan.
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:12:55
And there is no mention of enp3s0 heathenwolfe
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:13:08
Americanu, okay, edit connections
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:13:16
Right
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:13:19
Americanu, edit the connection where it says --
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:13:38
Americanu, check under the tab device that enp3s0 is selected
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:13:52
Heathenwolfe it is
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:13:54
Americanu, it should say Device enp3s0 (mac address)
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:14:17
Yup it is selected already
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:14:31
Americanu, automatic dhcp as well under ipv4 but you checked that allready
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:14:57
True it is auto dhcp
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:15:47
Americanu, try to connect with this connection
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:16:09
Americanu, so close the configs, then click the network icon and click the name of the connection
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:16:41
Its greyed out i guess
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:16:46
Americanu, alternatively, $ nmcli con up "Name"
flyback 2017-01-26 12:16:54
when you install packages in ubuntu are any config files etc set based on cpu detected
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:16:59
heathenwolfe https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/r8USK1xn/irccloudcapture-499496301.jpg
flyback 2017-01-26 12:17:09
or are all the cpu optimizations in the executables entirely
flyback 2017-01-26 12:17:18
man I am getting senile
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:17:24
Americanu, aha
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:17:32
Americanu, it says your network device is not managed
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:17:47
"no suitable devices found for this connection" in terminal
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:18:02
Yeah but the wire is plugged in
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:18:21
On w10 i dont have issues with it heathenwolfe
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:18:23
Americanu, for me it lists the connection right under "Ethernet network" and then "disconnect" under it if it's connected
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:18:44
I know i understand that
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:18:58
Would the instalation of ubuntu be corupted ?
courrier 2017-01-26 12:19:17
I'm planning to buy an Aquaris M10 but the Ubuntu edition is out of stock, can I buy an Android version and install Ubuntu Touch easily?
k1l 2017-01-26 12:20:09
courrier: i suggest you ask in #ubuntu-touch
courrier 2017-01-26 12:20:27
thanks k1l :)
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:20:33
Americanu, might be because you edited it in /etc/network/interfaces, http://askubuntu.com/questions/71159/network-manager-says-device-not-managed
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:21:40
Americanu, give it a reboot or restart the services
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:22:15
Ok il reboot heathenwolfe
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:22:52
Should i do that sudo command in the post you made?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:23:01
You sent*
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:23:30
Americanu, well first check $ ip addr and $ ip route before touching stuff
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:23:56
Americanu, see if your network menu says the connection is managed or not
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:24:06
Ip route is still not saying anything
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:24:25
Ethernet now say disconnected instead of "not managed"
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:24:40
Americanu, just click the connection
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:24:54
Its greyed out
Mister 2017-01-26 12:25:14
Excuse me k1l, but do I run or save the file
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:25:16
hi in ubuntu is a thread used as a core in intel processors?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:25:17
Americanu, screenshot?
flyback 2017-01-26 12:25:42
if I leave in the current core2duo and load lubuntu/ubuntu
k1l 2017-01-26 12:25:58
Mister: save
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:26:02
heathenwolfe https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/rpRlwUvI/irccloudcapture53686366.jpg
flyback 2017-01-26 12:26:08
then upgrade to a newer revision core2duo that has sse4 is there something set at distro install or package install time
flyback 2017-01-26 12:26:14
that would be affected by that
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:26:52
Americanu, I have the same situation when i pull the ethernet plug
Mister 2017-01-26 12:26:54
Thanks.
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:27:06
Hmmm
Mister 2017-01-26 12:27:38
I'd much rather try to work with Linux then just get rid of it and run windows 7
Mister 2017-01-26 12:27:44
Because it seems very interesting.
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:28:00
Americanu, plugging back in seems to autoconnect
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:28:22
Americanu, and then it says "Wired connection 1" on second line and "disconnect" on line 3
nacc 2017-01-26 12:28:27
coffeeguy: Linux does not generally differentiate between hardware threads and hardware cpus/cores, why do you ask?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:28:28
Heathenwolfe i just did that and it does nothing
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:28:38
hmm vmware player isn't utilizing all the cores i set for it or ubuntu isn't
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:29:26
i have a 4 core intel and i set 2 cores for vmware player and top shows vmware player using 200% cpu
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:29:53
Americanu, okay so i have reproduced the results you have with $ ip route by unplugging
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:30:00
with one core set it's back to 16% cpu on top
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:30:01
Hmmm
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:30:29
That doesnt make sense. I can connect to internet with w10 on same machine heathenwolfe
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:30:29
one core set in vmware player settings
elisa87 2017-01-26 12:31:30
please have a look at this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/41884842/internalerror-see-above-for-traceback-dst-tensor-is-not-initialized
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:31:53
Americanu, sounds like something with drivers although i'm not sure on that
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:32:23
Americanu, did you have internet connection with the livecd?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:32:34
Well i did for a bit
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:32:48
note: vmware workstation package updated today too
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:32:58
Like i found once a command that reboots something on network mansger
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:33:04
Americanu, a bit?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:33:05
And it worked
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:33:20
Like until the next reboot
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:33:42
Ill try to reinstall Ubuntu
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:33:59
I think itt may have not be installed
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:34:11
Corectly
k1l 2017-01-26 12:34:29
what network card is it?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:34:35

Americanu 2017-01-26 12:34:40
Integrated
k1l 2017-01-26 12:34:58
Americanu: run "lspci" and show the output on paste.ubuntu.com
nacc 2017-01-26 12:35:06
coffeeguy: aiui, you specify cores per cpu, not cores themselves?
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:35:32
Americanu, integrated doesn't say anything about chipset, my lsmod mentions e1000 because i'm using intel nic
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:36:16
I cant paste it on pastebin as i dont have internet on it ?
peyam 2017-01-26 12:36:39
hi
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:36:41
Americanu, oops
peyam 2017-01-26 12:37:00
When I turn the computer on , it shows the booting logo of Xubuntu and then it goes to black screen
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:37:01
Americanu, save it to a textfile using $ lsmod > output.txt
peyam 2017-01-26 12:37:07
anyone know what to do?

heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:37:54
Americanu, and then to usb stick or on your w10 partition
Bashing-om 2017-01-26 12:37:56
!nomodeset | peyam
ubottu 2017-01-26 12:37:56
peyam: A common kernel (boot)parameter is nomodeset, which is needed for some graphic cards that otherwise boot into a black screen or show corrupted splash screen. See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 on how to use this parameter
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:38:19
Lsmod > output.txt?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:38:37
It does nothing , like similar to ip route i guess
peyam 2017-01-26 12:38:38
Bashing-om: I can not see the desktop. Im writting from irrsi in command line using ctrl alt f1
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:38:39
hehe i hope i didn't show too much ;)
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:38:43
Americanu, yes
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:38:53
Americanu, it redirects the output of your screen to the file
peyam 2017-01-26 12:38:58
Bashing-om: im sorry. Can not see anything. if you only explain to me how to get it to work
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:39:01
Americanu, cat output.txt
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:39:08
Americanu, then you'll see the output
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:39:25
Oh sorry yea
pavlos 2017-01-26 12:39:36
Americanu, try, lsmod | nc termbin.com 9999
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:39:36
Americanu, alternatively this will show both on the terminal and save it to a file $ lsmod | tee output.txt
hugo_ 2017-01-26 12:39:40

Americanu: "lspci" is the command
peyam 2017-01-26 12:41:20
i will thanks
nacc 2017-01-26 12:41:25
coffeeguy: hrm, i'm not sure -- i'd guess based upon that screen that it's not suggesting the VM cores correspond to physical cores, but rather to logical CPUs.
k1l 2017-01-26 12:41:35
(to list the network cards)
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:41:44
I pasted that lsmod gives , i can do lspci too
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:42:09
Americanu, yeah sorry about all the terminal stuff, it shouldn't happen during your first foray into Ubuntu. Unfortunately things tend to break
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:42:25
logical cpus ok but if set to 2 it's shouldn't be registering in 'top' as 200% or am i missing something
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:42:27
k1l, Americanu, sorry for the mixup between lsmod & lspci...

nacc 2017-01-26 12:42:50
coffeeguy: why not? 200% cpu means it is using 2 logical cpus
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:42:58
ok
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:43:08
This is the lspci lol its alright heathenwolfe , i do appreciate the help
peyam 2017-01-26 12:43:13
It says that the newest driver were installed
k1l 2017-01-26 12:43:13
Americanu: you mean the ethernet card, not a wifi card, right?
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:43:26
Ethernet yes, wired
heathenwolfe 2017-01-26 12:43:28
Americanu, k1l, i see Realtek
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:43:44
i thought top would take into account sum load vs total cores which is 4
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:43:51
Realtek is the ethernet one
Americanu 2017-01-26 12:44:01
I mean thats what it says on w10
ubuntu-mate 2017-01-26 12:44:04

nacc 2017-01-26 12:44:25

k1l 2017-01-26 12:44:37

When start my Xubuntu 14.04 it shows the booting logo and then black screen appear
coffeeguy 2017-01-26 12:44:57
4 cores with 2 used is out of a 100% total would be 50%
