Afternoon all. How can I take a pixel perfect (.bmp or similar) screenshot on the unity desktop?
bigLanky 2017-01-28 16:53:54
i did not
bigLanky 2017-01-28 16:53:56
should I do that?
MarkB2 2017-01-28 16:56:10
Might I ask someone to open a Terminal, look in Preferences, and tell me what the "standard default" font is for a terminal? I changed mine, didn't record what was, and my eyes hurt. Please?
PipeItToDevNull 2017-01-28 16:57:34
Ubuntu?
MarkB2 2017-01-28 16:57:52
Is that the actual name of the font? "Ubuntu" ?
PipeItToDevNull 2017-01-28 16:58:32
It is a real font name and doesnt look half bad "Inconsolatas" and "Droid San" look good as well, any Mono font will
cfhowlett 2017-01-28 16:58:34
there should be a reset command PipeItToDevNull
wedgie 2017-01-28 16:58:39
MarkB2: mine says "monospace" but i'm not 100% that i haven't changed it at some point
cfhowlett 2017-01-28 16:59:12
deja vu sans mono is my default in xubuntu
Sean_McG 2017-01-28 17:00:25
it's just referred to as 'Monospace Regular' on my machine
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:00:54
I can live with ubunto mono regular.
PipeItToDevNull 2017-01-28 17:01:15
Ubuntu is an amazing font, though I run terminus
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:01:16
Good gawd. My eyes were really beginning to ache.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:01:46
I don't know whose idea it was to have semi-transparent fonts... or fonts with fuzzy edges.
Sean_McG 2017-01-28 17:02:11
I'm still trying to figure out why text looks so crisp on my nVidia when compared to the Intel onboard graphics even at the same resolution (1440p)
PipeItToDevNull 2017-01-28 17:02:43
MarkB2: It is how fonts are handled and what they are designed to be used in
Sean_McG 2017-01-28 17:03:15
the fuzzy edges thing I believe dates back to Adobe TrueType, doesn't it?
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:04:27
Sean_McG: Part of the fuzzy in my system are VGA cables that are a little too long, I think. which reminds me..
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:05:22
This computer has a NVidia 6200 PCI video interface. ubuntu 16.04.1 64-bit doesn't support that.. and I went to try loading the NVidia driver.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:05:34
Downloaded the driver.. and it goes to compile..
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:05:58
Then bombs out because the header files used to create the system are different than the header files in /usr/include .
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:06:26
Which, to me, kind of fails the odor test.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:07:19
Surely someone has compiled the NVidia drivers for ubuntu 64-bit ?
Sean_McG 2017-01-28 17:07:41
yes, but I have a GTX 1070 :)
Bashing-om 2017-01-28 17:07:43
MarkB2: " linux-headers-generic " installed ?
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:08:40
Bashing-on: Probably not (all these PACKAGES to install!) I'll go look.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:09:37
! They're installed.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:10:01
Or at least dpkg -l | grep header shows linux-headers-generic in place.
MarkB2 2017-01-28 17:18:09
Hmm.. it did find something. Argh. This won't run while running X. Back in a bit.
