tatertots: checking in the MythTV room for those errors, I have everything configed for the correct IP (LAN IP) so not sure why it's erroring with 127.0.0.1 but gonna look more into the HD issue checked it not too long ago and it seemed to not have bad sectors
wook 2017-01-28 04:57:02
has anyone else been having firefox memory usage issues the last week or 2?
wook 2017-01-28 04:57:02
it's getting to the point where firefox is getting nearly unusable, especially all the javascript errors
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 04:58:28
smartctl is reporting no bad sectors but prob best to run badblocks or something
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:02:16
RedPenguin: run a long smart test with smartctl
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 05:03:07
yea was thinking that, badblocks wants an unmounted FS which is sort of hard when it's your root drive
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:07:56
RedPenguin: if a long smart test is ok and you're not seeing errors in dmesg you are probably fine. for now. that is the beautiful thing about drives, you often don't know they're failing until it's too late :)
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 05:08:45
Yep that's why I like my backups so much, I've had non-important drives dead when I wake up before lol
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 05:09:09
When you are still slightly tired is a great time to find a dead drive
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 05:10:27
but mainly trying to figure out why it's saying "2 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors"
RedPenguin 2017-01-28 05:11:51
at least switching back to Firefox vs Chrome seems to make the PC way more responsive
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:12:45

ducasse 2017-01-28 05:28:17
BlueShark: pastebin output of 'free -m'

ducasse 2017-01-28 05:30:04
BlueShark: ok, so you're not swapping. can you define "slow"? _what_ is slow?
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:30:43
ducasse: chrome is often slow. it hangs when I have like more than 10 tabs.
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:31:34
BlueShark: how many tabs were open when you got the 'free' output?
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:31:49
14
noimnotninevolt 2017-01-28 05:33:22
was chrome running slow at that time?
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:33:57
BlueShark: you still have plenty of free memory, might be a graphics driver thing.
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:34:21
noimnotninevolt: yes
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:34:26
ducasse: how to check?
noimnotninevolt 2017-01-28 05:34:51
then it's not lack of memory that's slowing things down.
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:35:43
BlueShark: what driver are you using?
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:36:03
ducasse: you mean if I have installed additional graphics drivers?
BlueShark 2017-01-28 05:36:04
nope;
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:36:44
BlueShark: can you pastebin ouput of 'lspci -k'?
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:39:44
anyone here knowledgable on cron jobs?
noimnotninevolt 2017-01-28 05:40:08
yes.
erreere 2017-01-28 05:41:30
I see dnsmasq is installed by default. On my other distribution, I used dnsmasq ( installed by myself + some configurations for my private use). Is it possible now with the dnsmasq of ubuntu ? Where i have to set my config ? Or maybe it's better to uninstall and install again ?
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:41:44
so for some reason my root cron job isn't running. It's basically a auto shutdown, but It appears it's never run, at least when I grep through the /var/log/syslog file It only shows the edits to my crontab, but never a run
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:42:57
I've set the script to executable as well.
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:43:09
any ideas?
noimnotninevolt 2017-01-28 05:43:38
i wouldn't use cron for that, personally..
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:43:56
what would you suggest, I'm using ubuntu server so I don't have a gui.
noimnotninevolt 2017-01-28 05:44:03
can you pastebin your crontab?
s7rawm4n 2017-01-28 05:44:26
sure that's just "command" | pastebin correct?
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:44:40
pastebinit
ducasse 2017-01-28 05:45:01
