KenLL 2017-02-25 12:45:39
This is a big improvement because 80% of users have no idea they are using RGB = Limited.
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:45:57
KenLL: no, it's probably still automatic. Just that the automatic detection is working better on your hardware
k1l_ 2017-02-25 12:46:06
ok, so your issue is fixed. everything done
tatertots 2017-02-25 12:46:31
please..make it stop
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:46:34
k1l_, True, that part of the issue seems fixed though I'm still puzzled I'm using HDMI2 instead of HDMI1.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:46:37
But I'm told that makes no difference.
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:47:12
OMG
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:47:20
I'm going to reboot my machine and see if I start once again using RGB = Full without having to explicate it via command line.
k1l_ 2017-02-25 12:48:01
KenLL: i guess you dont plan to dig into technical code or technical details on how to build a a video card hardwarewise, so stay with the easy answer and be happy.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:48:10
k1l_, Like I say, for 10 months I was using RGB = Limited without even knowing it.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:48:21
I'm lucky I realized that or I'd still to this day be using Limited.
k1l_ 2017-02-25 12:48:24
KenLL: all the channel knows your story
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:49:31
KenLL: have you tried adjusting your color profile yet?
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:49:37
tgm4883, No. How do I do that?
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:49:51
https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/color.html I guess
dejand 2017-02-25 12:50:30
hello, i have a one question about Landscape (https://landscape.canonical.com) i cannot find information about licencing and pricing. my question is, is it free for on-prem installation and are they any limitations. Also I dont quite get what's the difference between landscape and ubutnu advantage
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:52:08
tgm4883, It says I need to go to System Settings + Color.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:52:11
But I can't find that.
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:52:16
dejand: you have to call for pricing I believe. IIRC, up to 10 devices are free, but not on premise
OerHeks 2017-02-25 12:52:26
dejand, scroll down.. 'get landscape .."
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:52:27
KenLL: you are using Unity?
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:52:51
tgm4883, No, Mate.
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:52:56
FFS
dejand 2017-02-25 12:53:34
those links just redirect to me Ubuntu Advantage
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:53:42
I asked in #ubuntu-mate just now, but there's only 80 users in there and it probably won't get a response.
tgm4883 2017-02-25 12:54:27
KenLL: http://askubuntu.com/questions/629832/how-to-calibrate-monitor-in-ubuntu-mate
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:55:47
I've now upgraded my Intel Graphics Stack
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:57:03
It's hard at work, so we'll see if this has anything to offer to me.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:58:51
Need to reboot.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:58:51
I'll be back later.
KenLL 2017-02-25 12:58:51
Thanks for the expertise.
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 12:58:51
hi am looking for a gmail webmail alternative with an ubuntu client?
OerHeks 2017-02-25 12:58:51
coffeeguy, tons of free email services, not really an ubuntu support issue
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 12:59:13
true that it's not an ubuntu issue i'll ask in ##linux :)
OerHeks 2017-02-25 12:59:26
How about the mail service your provider gives you?
dotscit 2017-02-25 12:59:31
coffeeguy: find webclient that allows POP or IMAP. Whatever you prefer.
zerorax 2017-02-25 12:59:31
is there any window managers that have a menu that isn't a bar, but rather a floating window?
zerorax 2017-02-25 12:59:37
I know there WAS one 20 years ago
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 13:00:02
gmail does but google
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 13:00:04
heh
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 13:01:00
thanks OerHeks dotscit :)
zerorax 2017-02-25 13:01:27
google is great. I used to hate them, but then they changed my life with targeted ads
dotscit 2017-02-25 13:01:43
coffeeguy: google you might need to disable something to allow clients to connect to gmail
KenLL 2017-02-25 13:03:01
Hi folks.
dotscit 2017-02-25 13:03:30
KenLL: u
KenLL 2017-02-25 13:03:33
It appears RGB = Full is being triggered when I have a newer monitor plugged in. When I have an older one plugged in, I get by default LIMITED.
KenLL 2017-02-25 13:03:43
So it's not the software that has changed, it's my monitor.
KenLL 2017-02-25 13:03:45
Does this sound right?
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:04:01
KenLL, sounds plausible
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:04:43
how do i figure out from apt-cache policy, where a specific version is coming from, what ppa it belongs to
KenLL 2017-02-25 13:04:45
So the newer monitor is fully understood by Ubuntu or the kernel while the slightly older one, about a year older, is not fully compatible, and on every boot I have to manually enter RBG = Full.
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:04:56
where a specific version in the version table is coming from
dotscit 2017-02-25 13:05:00
azizLIGHT: I donnu
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:05:13
what ppa a sppecific version in version table of apt-cache policy it belongs to
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:05:24
sorry i am trying to rephrase better
MonkeyDust 2017-02-25 13:05:53
azizLIGHT not sure if apt can handle ppa's, guess not
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:06:30
ok i found it by googling version number
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:07:20
if i removed this ppa, then why is it shown in the version table
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:07:43
fortunately its not shown as candidate for install
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:07:56
but still, why is it in the version table of apt-cache policy?
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:09:39
azizLIGHT, if you did not use ppa purge, installed versions will stick
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:10:08
but you know about ppapurge.
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:10:08
OerHeks: i did use ppa-purge but something happend where it was trying to remove too many packages ors omething and i had to abort so i had a partial ppa-purge command done essentially
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:10:08
but if i look in sources.list.d that ppa is commented out
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:10:08
yet apt-cache policy libegl1-mesa:i386: shows the version from that ppa
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:10:08
OerHeks: see result of above command: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24068446/
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:10:08
azizLIGHT, so the ppa is not properly removed.
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:10:08
add it again, and perform ppa-purge
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:11:38
OerHeks: see this is what happened to my system: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24052312/
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:11:48
removed so many pacakges
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:12:28
how do i fix this in 14.04lts?
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:13:35
apt log of that command: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24052249/
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:15:58
k
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:15:58
OerHeks you mean
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:15:58
azizLIGHT, reverse that xorg edgers ppa, before doing something with HWE ..
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:15:58
OerHeks: unfortunately the opposite happened
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:15:58
OerHeks: here is me trying to purge xorg edgers ppa after doing HWE: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24052686/
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:15:58
i beleive i presed q there
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:15:58
azizLIGHT, i cannot help with this ppa mess, sorry
coffeeguy 2017-02-25 13:16:00
hi dotscit game me some advice about mail in here then pm'd me this http://pastebin.com/qgzQx3zt
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:16:04
ok will you tell me if theres a way to undo HWE at least
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:16:16
the 4.4 kernel wont boot for me on encrypted disk
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:17:07
when start up you can boot from different kernel
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:18:07
thats what ive been doing
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:18:13
start up from different kernel and delete 4.4
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:18:23
is that all thats needed to undo HWE
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:18:24
azizLIGHT, maybe this command works > sudo apt-get remove $(hwe-support-status --show-all-unsupported) >>> http://askubuntu.com/questions/509613/how-to-downgrade-hwe
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:18:53
but with that ppa problem, i won't bet on it.
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:19:08
idk im noob
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:19:13
Oo
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:20:05
OerHeks: ive downgraded most packages that xorgedgers tried to dominate on
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:20:13
back to ubnutu repo versions
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:20:33
and most apt-cache policy *package* results dont show xorg edgers ppa versions in them
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:20:39
except for that one i mentioned
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:20:55
even with it in the version table, its not listed as condidate
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:21:02
which is sorta good
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:21:17
im still checking the remaining packages for any signs of the ppa in version tables
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:22:13
de-encryption add 4.4 then re encrypt
reepca 2017-02-25 13:23:31
any idea what specifically causes a window to be determined "unresponsive" and then grayed out?
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:23:56
video
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:24:00
ram maybe
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:24:26
u know if its like that, ill just do my system over and start with 16.04
OerHeks 2017-02-25 13:24:27
reepca, just buzy .. happens with large actions.
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:24:31
rather than decrypt and re-encrypt
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:24:40
this bad experience with HWE and ppa makes me wanna do it anyway now
reepca 2017-02-25 13:24:50
but what metric does it use to determine if soething is "busy"?
reepca 2017-02-25 13:24:53
something*
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:25:02
i didnt even use xorgedgers ppa for anything im stupid for not removing unused ppas
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:25:05
lesson learned
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 13:26:29
if i have a list of packages and wanna know which of them are installed and which of them are not installed, how to separate the list ?
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:27:00
thanks again for the above info, I see how to make a crt, but I am not quite sure where an SSL CLient Key gets put on the system
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:27:43
I have the certificate installed sucessfully it seems, but the sever wants the private key also
dotscit 2017-02-25 13:29:24
RedPenguin: why
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:29:54
it's an HLS Video Server and it seems in the .P12 file there is both a Client Cert and Client Key to connectt
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:32:13
In Windows it allows me to simply import the entire .p12 as one piece but I can't seem to do the same on Linux
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:32:31
And oddly even on Windows, ffmpeg and Chrome are the only programs that will use the cert/key
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:33:30
oh wait maybe I did do it right afterall
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:33:51
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2016/05/remove-old-kernels-ubuntu-16-04/
RedPenguin 2017-02-25 13:34:04
no I just get " A TLS fatal alert has been received." from ffmpeg
viju 2017-02-25 13:37:46
Hi
ablest1980 2017-02-25 13:38:16
whats ffmpeg should be mpeg i think
viju 2017-02-25 13:38:22
I wanted to know what wrong might happen if I use sudo apt-get autoremove
dotscit 2017-02-25 13:39:20
viju: be brave. Try it
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 13:41:28
viju: Consider if there is an adverse effect from 'autoremove' then there was already a major problem . Package meanager is some kind of smart .
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 13:41:43
manager*
viju 2017-02-25 13:43:06
It says it can remove linux image/headers
viju 2017-02-25 13:43:39
I wonder if I'd need those to run
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 13:45:13
viju: Yepper will remove old kernel images . That is one of it's functions . do ' uname -r ' to see the booting kernel and that autoremove will not touch it .
