#ubuntu channel featuring donofrio, ducasse, bekks, anddam, OerHeks, user_32,

bekks 2017-02-25 05:46:40
faLUCE: I did.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:46:40
I'm using 16.10
bekks 2017-02-25 05:46:40
faLUCE: And the command is almost the same for 16.10, just search for the linux image hwe package.
user_32 2017-02-25 05:46:40
this is BR for here
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:46:55
bekks: ok, but I still wonder: what is the status or RTL8188CUS on 4.8 kernel?
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:47:17
*OF
bekks 2017-02-25 05:47:17
faLUCE: Take a look at the official kernel changelog for 4.8
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:47:27
bekks: ok
OerHeks 2017-02-25 05:48:19
status of that 8188cus is the same crappy driver as a year ago, not a kernel issue.
bekks 2017-02-25 05:48:30
I second OerHeks.
OerHeks 2017-02-25 05:48:50
and you have kernel 4.8, else you did something yourself..
OerHeks 2017-02-25 05:49:18
So, what is the status of Ubuntu Project?
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:49:31
OerHeks: then, on windows there are same issues with the same NIC?
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:49:40
or similar issues?
bekks 2017-02-25 05:49:52
faLUCE: The chipset stays crappy, yes.
OerHeks 2017-02-25 05:50:01
nice try, i'll ignore you now.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:50:16
I'm not polemic, I'm trying to understand
bekks 2017-02-25 05:50:31
faLUCE: Windows is irrelevant for this channel.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:50:50
because it appears strange to me that a network card has so many issues.
bekks 2017-02-25 05:51:14
faLUCE: It is a RTL chipset. They are crappy for decades, which is a well known "feature".
ducasse 2017-02-25 05:51:14
faLUCE: that chipset should not be used for anything relating to computing.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:51:17
it could be easily what you say, but I want to understand better
faLUCE 2017-02-25 05:51:51
bekks: ducasse but it seems that it's quite common
bekks 2017-02-25 05:52:09
faLUCE: And its still crappy.
ducasse 2017-02-25 05:52:38
i wanted to use a stronger word, but yes.
ducasse 2017-02-25 05:56:36
faLUCE: the reason it is common is that it is cheap. a lot of people buy cheap stuff, with no thought about quality.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 06:05:08
bekks: I see. So, in order to have a workaround for that, should I buy a good usb dongle and disable the PCI internal one?
faLUCE 2017-02-25 06:05:14
I use a mini-pc, so I can't access to PCI stuff
donofrio 2017-02-25 06:05:24
what commands can I type to get the grub2 loader to boot a windows usb stick?
bekks 2017-02-25 06:05:36
faLUCE: I did answer your question, already.
faLUCE 2017-02-25 06:06:03
bekks: could not read your answer due to connection problems
anddam 2017-02-25 06:40:24
ah here it is in mldonkey-server, the rules have only --enable-gui=newgui2 --enable-directconnect --disable-magic --disable-fasttrack
anddam 2017-02-25 06:40:33
so no upnp option
anddam 2017-02-25 06:41:01
luckily enough I'm smart enough to not try and build the package just for that
bekks 2017-02-25 06:41:33
Instead you jusr setup minidlna?
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:44:18
hey all, i have run into a bit of trouble, looks like my nvidia driver modules are not properly installing
bekks 2017-02-25 06:44:18
Why not? And how do you install them?
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:44:18
first ran into an issue after trying to install the latest cuda package from nvidia, cuda-repo-ubuntu1604-8-0-local-ga2_8.0.61-1_amd64.deb
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:44:18
which wanted to install nvidia-375
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:44:18
i was on nvidia-367.15
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:44:34
ive tried to purge and reinstall, but after reboot i get "NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with NVIDIA driver. Make sure that latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running."
OerHeks 2017-02-25 06:44:48
nvdrivers, don't use the cuda package from nvidia, told you hours ago. upgrade to 16.10 for cuda 8
bekks 2017-02-25 06:44:48
And is it installed and running?
bekks 2017-02-25 06:44:56
Ah.
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:45:33
OerHeks: yes, I have removed this package though, im trying to install the old drivers
nvdrivers 2017-02-25 06:45:33
i will upgrade to 16.10
