Tree works awesome.
OerHeks 2017-02-23 18:47:00
stanford_ai, stop that nonsense, thanks
Aurorasaura 2017-02-23 18:47:48
Though I want to be able to tree without having to specify the folder...
OerHeks 2017-02-23 18:47:55
Aurorasaura, then you like mc too, filemanager for tty
OerHeks 2017-02-23 18:47:58
!info mc
ubottu 2017-02-23 18:47:59
mc (source: mc): Midnight Commander - a powerful file manager. In component universe, is optional. Version 3:4.8.17-1 (yakkety), package size 507 kB, installed size 1592 kB
stanford_ai 2017-02-23 18:49:21
OerHeks, you're welcome !
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:49:22
hey, does anyone ever have issues on a thinkpad x200 tablet with the wifi? Mine sometimes just stops working. I do sudo service network-manager restart, and that used to fix it, but now it seems like a crap shoot (pardon the language)
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:49:53
Also, I came in here out of nostalgia, even though it's not a question or an answer, I have good memories of this place.
rynan7 2017-02-23 18:50:09
I am new to ubuntu and I was wondering if anyone could give me an example of how to chown a directory to a user?
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:51:04
rynan7: if you type in man chown in the terminal, it will give you a manual to it. I know it's a bit daunting when you're newer so...
rynan7 2017-02-23 18:51:35
I have the basics I keep messing up on the group part
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:51:53
if you scroll down though into that manual from the command 'man chown', you'll see a lot of arguments you can add in to the command, one is -R, or you can type the full thing, which is --recursove (two -'s).
hicoleri 2017-02-23 18:51:56
The time on my system clock resets to UTC time after each reboot for some reason even though the local timezones are different, but it syncs itself to local time if it has access to the internet. How do I make the local time not 'reset' itself
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:52:05
that recursive command is required to get everything inside of a folder.
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:52:26
also when in a manual, you can type the letter q to leave it and go back to the terminal
rynan7 2017-02-23 18:53:56
thank you Frank just one more question. Do you enter the user first or the directory?
pottsy 2017-02-23 18:54:29
How can you have trouble with chown, its such a self explanitory command : chown -R user:group /directory
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:54:42
I was actually retesting the command as you type that, this worked for me, assuming the user's name is Jameso and the folder's name is folder:
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:55:03
rynan7: chown -R Jameso folder
rynan7 2017-02-23 18:55:15
ok thanks again
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 18:55:25
pottsy, everyone's mind has a different hurdle.

degenerate: which ubuntu version?
pottsy 2017-02-23 19:25:58
degenerate: can you post output for 'lspci -k'
pottsy 2017-02-23 19:26:54
driver issue I'd guess. Try latest proprietary AMD driver? third party driver?
pottsy 2017-02-23 19:27:28
as for the intel adaptor, I'm suprised thats showing unclaimed, but could be because AMD card is primary output.
Frank_Jameso 2017-02-23 19:28:14
it does seem like it's the wrong card driver combination. it has intel on there but you're using a radeon
pottsy 2017-02-23 19:28:51
intel would be the onboard adaptor.
Phanes 2017-02-23 19:29:13
