ragnarock_2: let me know when it's done
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 17:49:12
I'm running on an old as bones Powermac, just trying to find out which one's best for it :)
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 17:49:15
And okay!
OERIAS 2017-02-24 17:49:45
Bashing-om, https://paste.ubuntu.com/24062824/
uzjsn 2017-02-24 17:50:01
sometimes it is better to remove the conflicting packages from /var/lib/dpkg/status
uzjsn 2017-02-24 17:50:26
they will continue to work, but the system will forget about them and their conflicts
Bashing-om 2017-02-24 17:50:46
ragnarock_2: 16.04+ in AMD it is only open source . AMD is trying real hard to make us happy .
uzjsn 2017-02-24 17:51:04
apt is not a very good package manager and doesn't handle package conflicts well
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 17:51:11
Oh nice :)
u_u 2017-02-24 17:52:26
hi im having trouble removing a ppa from my system using ppa purge
OerHeks 2017-02-24 17:52:41
uzjsn, that would be fixed with apt install -f
u_u 2017-02-24 17:53:21
im using this command: sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gtk320 but when apt tries to update i get a 404 error
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:12:35
http://paste.ubuntu.com/24063013/
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:14:33
ragnarock_2: in terminal> apt list --installed|grep fgl|pastebinit
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:15:03
ragnarock_2: if you do not get a url/link on that one or an error just say so
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:15:12
Empty document
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:15:25
ragnarock_2: i suspected such
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:15:30
Wow lots of logins right now
tarball 2017-02-24 18:15:35
hello everyone, I ran checkbox for my system and its report was created in html and "ms excel" files!??!
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:16:09
ragnarock_2: in terminal> ubuntu-drivers list|pastebinit
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:16:27
ragnarock_2: after a second or two should show a url/link....if not just say so
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:16:40
ubuntu-drivers list # can take a minute...
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:16:40
ubuntu-drivers command not found. :/
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:16:49
Ahhhhh!
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:17:05
ragnarock_2: something is wrong....
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:17:20
Yeah, that is weird. Explains why "Additional Drivers" didn't start
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:17:28
ragnarock_2: ubuntu-drivers IS a command that SHOULD be found in a normal installation
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:17:33
ragnarock_2, odd, there is something fishy here .. 14.04 definitly got ubuntu-drivers
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:17:45
ragnarock_2: making your installation "abnormal'
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:17:54
time to reinstall
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:18:18
If it explains anything I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.5 via do release-upgrade
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:18:18
ragnarock_2: you also have a failed fglrx in your logs
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:18:19
or... tatertots ... is this because it is an ancient ppc????
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:18:33
and if it really explains anything, yeah... ancient ppc :p
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:18:55
ragnarock_2: if you really want detailed answers get me a report
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:19:00
But I'd like to think there's at least a solution, given all was fine before the upgrade
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:19:05
ragnarock_2: in terminal> sudo apt install sosreport
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:20:24
ragnarock_2: let me know when it's done
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:20:31
while that's installing, thanks for taking your time haha. I'm normally decent at finding this stuff out myself, but PPC's a whole different planet for me haha
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:21:39
Setting up sosreport
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:21:44
done!
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:21:59
ragnarock_2: in terminal> sudo sosreport
tarball 2017-02-24 18:22:19
I'd run Checkbox about 3,5 hours ago, and I'd seen its html report created. I just saw an "xlsx" version of the report that was accessed 2,5 hours ago, which was not by me..so that's being..hacked?
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:22:35
ragnarock_2: firstinitial=r lastname=agnarock2
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:22:51
ragnarock_2: in case you were struggling with that part
tarball 2017-02-24 18:22:51
or is checkbox creating its report in ms excel format?
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:23:12
what about case number?
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:23:14
I tried removing the broken packages via Aptitude
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:23:19
and it doesn't work
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:23:24
ragnarock_2: skip case number by pressing enter again
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:23:35
alright :)
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:23:38
ragnarock_2: i'm doing this off the record so there is no case number
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:24:30
ragnarock_2: let it run...let me know when its done
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:24:47
hey that rhymed...run and done lol
Bashing-om 2017-02-24 18:24:56
OERIAS: what broken packages ? we still at the transmission/transmission-gtk fiasco ?
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:24:56
hahaha!
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:25:28
ppa-trolling ..
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:25:49
Bashing-om, yes
uzjsn 2017-02-24 18:25:51
more like 3rd world package manager
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:25:52
time to reinstall, OERIAS
tarball 2017-02-24 18:26:07
I got an xlsx file as Checkbox output
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:26:10
OerHeks, reinstall ubuntu? I knew this was going to happen
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:26:22
It's done tatertots
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:26:29
30 minutes and you are back
tarball 2017-02-24 18:26:30
why am I not getting any help here?
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:27:01
OerHeks, then I have to reconfigure and crap. man I am going for a long time
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:27:27
I'd be glad to help tarball, but I've got a wacky predicament of my own :x
Bashing-om 2017-02-24 18:28:07
OERIAS: Uh Huh ^^ we can fight this dependency issues for hours . or reinstall in a matter of minutes ( with good backups ) .
tarball 2017-02-24 18:28:08
thank you ragnarock_2
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:28:09
ragnarock_2: in terminal> sudo chown $USER /tmp/sos*
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:28:28
done
tarball 2017-02-24 18:28:30
today since I reinstalled ubuntu all sorts of bizarre things happened.
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:28:44
ragnarock_2: in terminal> mv /tmp/sos* ~/
tarball 2017-02-24 18:28:46
and now an xlsx file pops up in my file manager
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:28:50
ragnarock_2: there is a space after *
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:29:07
done
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:29:20
ragnarock_2: look in your home folder for the report files
Bashing-om 2017-02-24 18:29:26
OERIAS: Mind ya I am willing to fight as long as you are . But be prepared to revert PPAs back to what is in our repo .
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:29:28
ragnarock_2: confirm they exist
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:30:34
ragnarock_2: upload both files to https://filebin.net/ and share the url/link
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:32:44
https://filebin.net/9xdr8p0m1pfkm781
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:33:03
@ tatertots
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:33:16
ragnarock_2: got it ...standby
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:33:24
gotcha :)
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:33:45
What all info does this provide? I'm curious :)
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:33:51
I am trying to follow this guide: https://github.com/NextThingCo/CHIP-SDK and ran "vagrant up" which worked fine but how do I run "vagrant ssh" in the same shell?
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:34:03
I don't really know what a shell it
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:34:05
is*
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:34:36
ragnarock_2: if you had a support contract... a support engineer may ask you to provide this report to assist in resolving your issues
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:34:54
Ohhh. Are you one?
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:36:03
ragnarock_2: let try not to get me banned from this place again okay
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:36:09
sorry :P
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:37:28
Hello?
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:37:39
Hello!
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:37:59
This is probably pretty basic, how do I run two commands in the same shell?
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:38:19
At once or one after the othr?
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:38:27
one after other
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:38:38
command1 ; command2
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:38:40
I need to run "vagrant run" then "vagrant ssh"
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:38:42
in the same shell
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:39:02
If I run vagrant up, I can't do anything else in the terminal window
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:39:40
If it helps you can put & after a command so that you can keep putting in commands
pavlos 2017-02-24 18:40:02
Shmam, maybe you can ask in the #vagrant channel
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:40:08
But don't close the terminal if you do that. The program's attached to it :P
OerHeks 2017-02-24 18:40:08
Shmam, you might want to reask in #vagrant as well
Shmam 2017-02-24 18:40:39
ok asking in #vagrant
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:41:07
ragnarock_2: this is all the x drivers installed on your system https://gist.github.com/dead9a7cf0e5825e983e80869535b099
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:41:21
ragnarock_2: i did not find fglrx
tatertots 2017-02-24 18:41:36
ragnarock_2: which is the proprietary driver
OERIAS 2017-02-24 18:41:45
Man I have to copy the files to the drive
ragnarock_2 2017-02-24 18:42:04
ahhh I see
