IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 17:51:22
I have no idea, because like I said, this isn't a matter of mounting, Ubuntu literally does not recognize the device period
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:51:51
Yes it is.
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:52:03
unknown filesystem = no go
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 17:53:09
an unknown filesystem will still show up in gparted or `fdisk -l`
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:53:29
true.
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 17:53:47
yet it doesn't
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:53:51
but even new cards can be broken.
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:54:22
test it in an other pc?
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 17:55:47
don't really have another device to test it in
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 17:56:41
oh well, it only cost me like, $12...
OerHeks 2017-02-25 17:56:41
smartphone perhaps?
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:11:44
OerHeks: i removed all the xorg-edgers ppa mess, removed it from all package's apt-cache policy version tables, did ppa-purge and now all my packages are finally back to ubuntu repo versions. now my question is, am i still on HWE? (i have made lots of changes and downgrades) where do i stand
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:15:54
http://paste.ubuntu.com/24069802/
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:16:41
i have also tried to remove the packages that hte hwe stack command tried to install
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:16:45
in panic
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:16:52
much earlier
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:17:13
My personal view is that Windows was successful because it was the only commercial operating system that wasn't trying to copy the work of Bell Labs. They implemented far cleaner and far well documented APIs that attracted developers; and they focused on graphical user experience, which allowed for a tremendously lower learning curve.
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:17:40
heres my apt history.log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24069809/
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:17:58
as you can see in the first command, it tried to remove a bunch of my packages
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:19:34
and it did, without my seeing it/realizing it
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:21:06
IgloriusFishPoo, It was successful because of PC-DOS
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:21:06
second command was me trying to undo everything lol
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:21:06
It had nothing to do with DOS
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:21:06
3rd command oinwards, is me repairing everything
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:21:06
IgloriusFishPoo, Windows 1.0 to Windows ME did
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:21:06
the first Windows was nothing but a window manager that ran on top of DOS and made it actually usable
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:21:06
IgloriusFishPoo, you're proving my point
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:21:06
DOS was removed as a back end when the NT kernel was released
cfhowlett 2017-02-25 18:21:06
interesting theory --- but completely offtopic in #ubuntu. please continue in #ubuntu-offtopic. Thanks.
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:21:06
@OERIAS, My statement doesn't prove your point, no more than saying that Skyrim attributes it's entire success to the existence of Steam
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:21:06
i checked the lists and all packages and their apt-cache policies in very detailed manner. i have installed all the packages i lost that i had before attempting HWE successfully, and have removed some HWE packages, and these are the related HWE packages that still remain on my system: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24069796/
IgloriusFishPoo 2017-02-25 18:21:06
That platform has nothing to do with the software
OerHeks 2017-02-25 18:21:06
gutys, move the chitchat to #ubuntu-offtopic please ..
OerHeks 2017-02-25 18:21:06
-t
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:22:26
so where should i go from here
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:22:26
OerHeks, I swallowed my pride and reinstalled ubuntu
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:22:26
remove all HWE packages in totality? and retry HWE stack upgrade command?
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 18:22:26
azizLIGHT: Remove HWE : 1st steps ; ' sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-input-all libwayland-egl1-mesa ' . then we clean up HWE .
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:22:26
but my backup drive fell to the floor and i can't restore from the drive :(
OerHeks 2017-02-25 18:22:26
OERIAS, we all have had that expensive lesson.
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:22:27
i have not rebooted since i have done this mess btw
OerHeks 2017-02-25 18:22:33
oh, no backup?
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:22:49
not really
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:22:54
OerHeks, luckily I did a back up on Wednesday to a server.
OERIAS 2017-02-25 18:23:13
So the information on the server isn't as old as the drive
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:23:34
Bashing-om: that command is to install the trusty versions right
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:23:48
Bashing-om: to establish the base packages i might ahve lost?
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 18:35:27
azizLIGHT: Yeah, nvidia, if it presents a issue later is easy to deal with . Presently are you now below that 40 key limit ? 'ls /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d | wc -l ' .
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:35:50
8 at the moment
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 18:38:49
azizLIGHT: K; ' sudo apt-get purge linux-generic-lts-xenial xserver-xorg-core-lts-xenial xserver-xorg-lts-xenial xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-xenial xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-xenial libwayland-egl1-mesa-lts-xenial .
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 18:43:41
azizLIGHT: Keep in mind you are a long way yet " 0 to remove and 37 not upgraded. " to get out of the woods .
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:44:29
yeah im wondering what thats about
Keyb0ard 2017-02-25 18:47:38

azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:57:01
Bashing-om: why is it wanna remove all these packages? http://paste.ubuntu.com/24069942/
Bashing-om 2017-02-25 18:57:14
azizLIGHT: I had meant to hold off on a full upgrade and to see what the package manager relates . but should not matter yet .
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:58:21
and full upgrade means ? upgrade to 16.04?
azizLIGHT 2017-02-25 18:58:45
i want to stay on 14.04
cfhowlett 2017-02-25 18:59:02

Bashing-om 2017-02-25 19:01:01
