Kingsy 2017-02-23 10:55:13

brainwash 2017-02-23 10:55:13
CarlFK: maybe first remove purple-matrix_0.0.0+git20170105.orig.tar.xz and purple-matrix_0.0.0+git20170105-1.debian.orig.tar.xz and debuild then?
Bashing-om 2017-02-23 10:55:13
Kingsy: A driver also installing a DM .. a 1st here for me too .
brainwash 2017-02-23 10:55:19
CarlFK: your log tells you why the task failed
Kingsy 2017-02-23 10:55:47
what in the world..... ok going to flatten it.
CarlFK 2017-02-23 10:56:09
brainwash: that doesn't tell me how to fix it... any idea what the dir should be called that I untar the source into?
Bashing-om 2017-02-23 10:56:24
Kingsy: ^^ UEFI box ?
CarlFK 2017-02-23 10:57:20
OerHeks: +git20170105 should include the fix mentioned
CarlFK 2017-02-23 10:59:05
hey I guessed right: purple-matrix_0.0.0+git20170105-1
CarlFK 2017-02-23 10:59:54
Setting up purple-matrix (0.0.0+git20170105-1) ... lets see if this flys....
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:01:15
Bashing-om: yeah
Malakuss 2017-02-23 11:01:20
^______^ hay =) I LOVE YOU LIVE
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:01:24
Bashing-om: UEFI is just the new "BIOS right ?
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:01:27
heh not sure myself
brainwash 2017-02-23 11:02:08
CarlFK: I assume that the directory does not matter
brainwash 2017-02-23 11:02:34
the downloaded files should not be located in that dir
Bashing-om 2017-02-23 11:02:53

ubottu 2017-02-23 11:02:54
Kingsy: UEFI is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware. It is meant as a replacement for the BIOS. For information on how to set up and install Ubuntu and its derivatives on UEFI machines please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
CarlFK 2017-02-23 11:04:33
brainwash: hmm, you are right. in the past I have gotten errors about it not being right, but I guess that was for something else. generally I bump into problems putting stuff on a PPA
faLUCE 2017-02-23 11:11:06
(ubuntu 16.10) hello. My network card connects and disconnects continously, and gives this dmesg output: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24055532/ . How can I solve? It seems that this bad issue has something to do with power managment ("Limiting TX power to 23 (23 - 0) dBm as advertised by 32:91:8f:da:ec:79")
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:12:44
faLUCE, no, that is just a line negotiation with the router.
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:13:10
ok what the hell is happening.. haha
faLUCE 2017-02-23 11:13:10
OerHeks: ok... but how could I fix that?
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:13:38
if I install this ppa --> https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa <-- then so sudo apt-get intall nvidia-378 it attempts to install loads of gnome stuff along with the driver... why? does anyone know?
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:14:08
faLUCE, if this is the same issue earlier, no clue how to 'fix' tl-wn725
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:14:45
some wifi adapters come with bad drivers.
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:14:54
not our fault, though..
faLUCE 2017-02-23 11:15:13
OerHeks: no, I solved the earlier issue (access point)
faLUCE 2017-02-23 11:15:52
OerHeks: the access point issue was only a network-manager GUI issue
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:17:30
hrm, I just don't understand.. haha
nacc 2017-02-23 11:19:28
Kingsy: can you pastebin `apt-cache show nvidia-378` ?
Bashing-om 2017-02-23 11:19:33
Kingsy: a thought; as this is a fresh install , after the install of the system completed the 1st thing you did was ' sudo apt update ; sudo apt upgrade ' ???
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:20:27
Bashing-om: yeah done that
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:20:34
nacc: sure 1 second
Bashing-om 2017-02-23 11:20:52
Kingsy: All I can say too is weird .
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:21:33
i suspect as part of lightdm
comptekki 2017-02-23 11:21:39
what is preferred? apt upgrade or dist-upgrade?
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:22:35
comptekki, both are valid, but do different things
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:22:38
nacc: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24055593
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:22:53
!distu-upgrade
nacc 2017-02-23 11:22:59
comptekki: apt has upgrade and full-upgrade, technically, dist-upgrade is for compat with apt-get
OerHeks 2017-02-23 11:23:13
!distupgrade
ubottu 2017-02-23 11:23:13
A dist-upgrade will install new dependencies for packages already installed and may remove packages if they are no longer needed. This will not bring you to a new release of Ubuntu, see !upgrade if that is your intention.
comptekki 2017-02-23 11:24:35
it seems that if I use just upgrade not everything gets updated, but dist-upgrade does. I need to check closer the diff...
nacc 2017-02-23 11:25:55
comptekki: with `apt`, I would recommend using full-upgrade if you only are interested in staying up to date
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:26:06
nacc: any ideas on that? I don't see anything funny in that output you asked for... but its 100% asking to install gnome when I try to install this
nacc 2017-02-23 11:26:30
Kingsy: can you show it in a pastebin?
comptekki 2017-02-23 11:26:49
nacc, ok thanks
comptekki 2017-02-23 11:26:57
checking man apt now
Kingsy 2017-02-23 11:27:09
one moment
comptekki 2017-02-23 11:29:40
yeah - looks like apt full-upgrade would do it like apt-get dist-upgrade
faLUCE 2017-02-23 11:39:28
OerHeks: solved (work-around) in this way http://askubuntu.com/questions/804607/ubuntu-16-04-wifi-intel-7265-slow-disconnecting
