faLUCE 2017-02-24 10:47:50
koleygr: no, it's not ok, because with the last kernel it goes into kernel panic much often, with my USB dongle. Then I want to use the other kernel
ppf 2017-02-24 10:49:04
faLUCE: you can uninstall that kernel that doesn't work for you
faLUCE 2017-02-24 10:49:19
ppf: I would like to preserve it, but to boot automatically to the other
koleygr 2017-02-24 10:49:26

mcrt 2017-02-24 11:39:19
ive applied for wiki-editors membership on launchpad... its been weeks and nothing happens, other people seem to get approved though.
Zambzz 2017-02-24 11:39:28
Thank you 0erHeks
OerHeks 2017-02-24 11:40:10
mcrt, join the documentation team, and see the bottom part of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DocumentationTeam/Organization
OerHeks 2017-02-24 11:41:37
mcrt, i have no info/influence on membership approval
mcrt 2017-02-24 11:41:50
geez. this is proving to be very difficult.
mcrt 2017-02-24 11:45:06
i need to contribute to the wiki before i can contribute to certain (old outdated) pages on the wiki?
Mitchy 2017-02-24 11:46:04
Hi all , can i ask here a question about a task in ubuntu (unity)
k1l 2017-02-24 11:46:37
mcrt: the access to the wiki needed to be reduced due to heavy spam action. you can talk to the team in #ubuntu-doc
digitalfiz 2017-02-24 11:48:59
test
k1l 2017-02-24 11:49:37
Mitchy: just ask
Mitchy 2017-02-24 11:51:23
Is it possible to run a sort of timer to refresh a webpage without starting the browser (which consues to much resources
mcrt 2017-02-24 11:51:47
k1l: thanks. thats understandable, but there should be some reasonable procedure to gain editing rights.
CombuderBob 2017-02-24 11:51:56
I'm manually tweaking my touchpad settings with xinput and use "Device Accel Constant Deceleration" to adjust acceleration... Is there a list of the other parameters, what's the mouse speed, what is the accel threshold?
wedgie 2017-02-24 11:52:21
Mitchy: to what purpose? Is the browser not already open at that point, or do you mean something else?
k1l 2017-02-24 11:52:53
mcrt: talk to the docs team
wedgie 2017-02-24 11:53:24
Mitchy: i'm quite certain that there are plugins that can be used to refresh pages on an interval available for firefox and chrome
mcrt 2017-02-24 11:54:14
k1l: thanks. im sorry, but im not gonna waste more time on this. going to put the stuff up somewhere else.
Mitchy 2017-02-24 11:55:59
ach cool well reason i ask is i want to indeed refresh a page bit not leave browser open when im not there or when having multible tabs open
wedgie 2017-02-24 11:57:32
Mitchy: again, to what purpose? Why do you want to refresh a page while you're not there?
wedgie 2017-02-24 11:57:36
is this to trigger some automated job or something?
Mitchy 2017-02-24 11:58:20
ehm job is a big word i guess , its to refresh a page nothing more or less
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:01:00
Mitchy: you can add a meta-tag if you can edit the page in question
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:01:07
to refresh on intervals
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:04:00
ie
CombuderBob 2017-02-24 12:04:05
Bumping my question, still can't find anything online: Is there a list of the various "props" in an xinput list-props? I want to set mouse speed and accel.
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:04:05
(sorry d/ced)
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:04:15
i try to explain , i want to refresh a webpage in a interval of let say 5 minutes, if possible without to open a webrowser
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:04:51
Is that webpages yours or third party?
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:04:53
Mitchy: what does "refresh" mean in that context? What are you expecting to happen?
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:05:21
weddgie a sort of automated F5
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:05:34
F5 only makes sense if a browser is open.
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:05:45
so i'm confused as to what you have in mind
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:05:51
i know but now u know what i try to say
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:06:00
i really don't.
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:07:30
Mitchy, something like " while true; do wget -qO- http://www.google.com > /dev/null; sleep 300; done "
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:07:36
* without > /dev/null ofcourse
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:09:47
Mitchy, or http://askubuntu.com/questions/355301/terminal-web-browser-page-reload
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:11:00
Oerheks ja jij snapt em
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:11:00
Mitchy, but wget does not work with https .. AFAIK
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:11:00

OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:11:00
oh it does :-D
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:11:00

dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:11:00
snakeoil
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:11:00
if it can be done in terminal it would be awesome
OerHeks 2017-02-24 12:11:45
I would go for tmux
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:12:06
or set up a cron job. Really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. But you refuse to say, so who knows.
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:15:33
im not refusing i said earlier i want to automate the refresh of a website , as if one does hit the F5 button every 5 minutes , sorry if i am unclear
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:16:20
that's not what you're trying to accomplish. That's what you think you want to do in order to accomplish your real goal.
xangua 2017-02-24 12:18:44
You want to refresh a webpage without loading a web browser? Huh
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:22:05
The XY problem

http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/66377/what-is-the-xy-problem
dimisdas 2017-02-24 12:22:17
and how to avoid it
tgm4883 2017-02-24 12:30:42
Mitchy: what is your end goal. eg. What are you trying to solve by refreshing a web page every 5 minutes?
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:32:35
my goal is that the page gets refreshed every few minutes because its not automated , and i am not behind the desk all the time ( its a newsfeed )
k1l 2017-02-24 12:36:12
Mitchy: if you dont want a webbrowser for that, that sounds like you want something like a rss feed/reader
pavlos 2017-02-24 12:36:31
Mitchy, do you view the page as index.html or via a browser?
Mitchy 2017-02-24 12:39:08
hmm i try to detaul te thing, the webpage (not made by me) people make artikels on it the RSS feed of that page is somehow connected to twitter, but twitter seems not auto refresh the rss feed, so we do it manual. the link we hit every few minutes or so , is a php script that refreshes the rss feed
kaosine 2017-02-24 12:40:42
*sigh* had to go buy some dvd-r's so I can revive a old laptop and hopefully revive my home server too ^_^
wedgie 2017-02-24 12:44:59
so it is launching a job. Set up a cronjob that uses curl or wget to hit that url every 5 mins
