AndChat106409: So here's the question: since the install is stuck and hasn't proceeded in half an hour, how to I unbork it without reinstalling yet again?
AndChat106409 2017-02-24 03:45:13
I think I will reinstall ubuntu and install something else
AndChat106409 2017-02-24 03:45:21
Dmesg showed up on tty
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:45:33
I'm lazy and haven't the energy to screw with yet another reinstall
AndChat106409 2017-02-24 03:45:53
And flodded during apt upgrade
AndChat106409 2017-02-24 03:46:39
For the first time bios has picked up my screen resolution though
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:46:41
Last time this happened I killed the updater, rebooted, and got the lovely looping login
phucthyn 2017-02-24 03:46:50
How do I uninstall the JDownloader 2 ?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:47:01
Carefully.
anddam 2017-02-24 03:47:09
what component is responsible for media disks auto-mounting?
anddam 2017-02-24 03:47:14
in Unity I mean
ppf 2017-02-24 03:47:46
automounting when and where?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:48:18
anddam: http://askubuntu.com/questions/89244/how-to-disable-automount-in-nautiluss-preferences
xixunier 2017-02-24 03:48:26
I have a partition which I want to encrypt, but there a catch "without removing the data" ?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:48:26
Is that what you mean?
xixunier 2017-02-24 03:48:33
the same , what to do for the home partition ?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:49:19
Xixunier: can you move the data elsewhere during the partition encryption?
gaurav2 2017-02-24 03:50:13
hi anyone please help me I have one online site it only support internet explorer and java. then how can I run that site on ubuntu
anddam 2017-02-24 03:50:55
DaemeonZane: no
xixunier 2017-02-24 03:51:01
DaemeonZane: ok
xixunier 2017-02-24 03:51:17
so there is no alternate way?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:51:41
Xixunier: You can use LUKS or ecryptfs. An alternate is to simply encrypt the data and not all of /home. Take a look at cryptkeeper or truecrypt.
gaurav2 2017-02-24 03:51:41
my company want to switch on ubuntu but if that site work then we can switch all computers on ubuntu
anddam 2017-02-24 03:52:02
that's the config for setting automount, I'd like to understand how the automount works, something is likely notified by udev events but what's it?
ppf 2017-02-24 03:52:17
gaurav2: try it in firefox?
gaurav2 2017-02-24 03:52:26
yes
anddam 2017-02-24 03:52:48
also my question arised from the need to assign a particular mount option, like uid=
ducasse 2017-02-24 03:53:04
xixunier: ecryptfs has a script that will encrypt your homedir, as long as it has space for another copy of all the data
mrhall 2017-02-24 03:53:58

gaurav2 2017-02-24 03:54:13

mrhall 2017-02-24 03:55:41

DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:57:16
Well Software and Updates just took a damn nose dive, and now dpkg --configure -a gripes about shim-signed
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 03:58:04
All this bs just so I can use my 1050ti
anddam 2017-02-24 03:59:10
is there a CLI tool to diff directories
anddam 2017-02-24 03:59:39
I mean something specific rather than a recursive diff -rqa
ppf 2017-02-24 04:00:45
anddam: what's wrong with diff then?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:00:45
Screw it. Just apt-get --purge removed everything Nvidia from the system. Has anyone with an NVIDIA 1050 or higher gotten the driver to work in the latest LTS?

hateball 2017-02-24 04:09:49
DaemeonZane: I run 1070 with PPA driver, works fine

DarkPsydeLord 2017-02-24 04:10:52

DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:11:07
hateball: I have to use the SecureBoot unfortunately.
hateball 2017-02-24 04:11:26

anddam 2017-02-24 04:14:34
DarkPsydeLord: I use vimdiff quite often, it's not the tool I'm looking for, I want something that is fs-aware, that browser subfolders and all

AndChat106409: I tried to purge all things nvidia prior to running that command
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:15:43
That's probably why all the extra packages are showing.
DarkPsydeLord 2017-02-24 04:16:27
anddam, what about unison or meld they are not cli based but maybe will help you
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:16:30
hateball: I'll give it a shot. Once I have it up and running, can I sign and re-enable the damn SecureBoot or am I stuck with it off?
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:16:50
Not that I want to, but it's by request
hateball 2017-02-24 04:17:15
DaemeonZane: it doesnt disable secureboot, it just says it does. you cant do that in software, it would defeat the whole point of it
azizLIGHT 2017-02-24 04:17:59
common anyone
DaemeonZane 2017-02-24 04:18:05
Lol
ducasse 2017-02-24 04:18:07
DaemeonZane: it disables kernel module validation. the alternative is to sign the modules yourself every time they are rebuilt.
