penguin_: what is your actual question?
sardior 2017-02-24 09:45:30
#steam-lug has 2 users in it, and #ubuntu-steam has 31... not sure how much help they will be, but I'll try. Thanks.

penguin_: yes, if you want to launch steam, install those packages
nacc 2017-02-24 09:45:43
penguin_: if you don't want to launch steam, don't install them
nacc 2017-02-24 09:45:47
penguin_: not sure why it's even a question
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:46:00
I didn't want to mess up my system again
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:46:09
so I asked if its safe
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:46:11
to do that
nacc 2017-02-24 09:46:31
penguin_: i don't know what you did to break your system before

nacc 2017-02-24 09:46:44
penguin_: in which case, the above won't do that
ilgios 2017-02-24 09:46:50
hi to everybody. I have a little problem with schroot. I have installed schroot, debootstrap and fs ubuntu14.04. I configured config file for schroot, but when i do schroot -c xxx, the fs where i logged is not the right one, but the one on my laptop. can someone help me?
OerHeks 2017-02-24 09:46:57
penguin_, it is safe not to do it... and please mention next time you installed packages manually.
Fabler 2017-02-24 09:47:38
Ok, Penguin, now just open terminal, and execute sudo apt-get install -f
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:47:52
im sorry.I have been using lubuntu for a few days now. I was trying various tips from google.

penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:49:07
I couldn't install steam in a normal way, hence I installed the package manually
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:49:11
thats why I did it
ppf 2017-02-24 09:49:22
why couldn't you install it?
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:49:28

penguin_: and how did you try? partner repository?
Fabler 2017-02-24 09:49:58
Actually, this is bad. Manually installed packages
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:50:04
I downloaded deb installed for steam
nacc 2017-02-24 09:50:15
penguin_: that is the mistake
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:50:18
installer*
nacc 2017-02-24 09:50:23
penguin_: steam is packaged for ubuntu, use the partner repository
ppf 2017-02-24 09:50:23
penguin_: you probably got some ppa that's broken dependencies. just install steam from the repos

err, multiverse not partner
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:50:46
seems that lubuntu has not steam in its repo
ppf 2017-02-24 09:50:46
yea, multiverse
nacc 2017-02-24 09:50:53
penguin_: yes, it does
ppf 2017-02-24 09:50:54
what version?
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:51:39
I cant seem to find steam in lubuntu software center

nacc 2017-02-24 09:52:06
it's definitely available for 16.04; you just need to enable multiverse

penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:52:41
I haven't updated my system at all yet.
OerHeks 2017-02-24 09:52:48
nacc, he needs updating i guess. sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
OerHeks 2017-02-24 09:53:06
*ALLWAYS* update before installing stuff
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:53:07
but im running the latest version 16.04.2
ppf 2017-02-24 09:53:12
OerHeks: no he doesn't. he just installed some foreign package from somewhere
ppf 2017-02-24 09:53:19
instead of using the official one
nacc 2017-02-24 09:53:24
well, they *also* should do that
nacc 2017-02-24 09:53:29
penguin_: there are updatese constantly
OerHeks 2017-02-24 09:53:51
ppf, that could be the culprit tooo, i stop i think, useless searching for issues that normally do not exist.
ppf 2017-02-24 09:54:39
OerHeks: he said so above
nacc 2017-02-24 09:55:07
penguin_: even if you did a fresh install today from brand new media, the first thing I'd suggest you do is `apt update; apt full-upgrade` after installation
ppf 2017-02-24 09:56:45
certainly can't hurt
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:59:32
alright

anddam: ack :)
ilgios 2017-02-24 09:59:32
hi to everyone, someone could help me with schroot?
nacc 2017-02-24 09:59:32

im updating my system
ppf 2017-02-24 09:59:32
penguin_: good
ppf 2017-02-24 09:59:32
then enable multiverse in software center
penguin_ 2017-02-24 09:59:32
the problem still exists.Maybe I will switch to different buntu?
ppf 2017-02-24 09:59:33
no
ppf 2017-02-24 09:59:36
enable multiverse

ilgios 2017-02-24 10:03:10
Sorry to everyone. I installed schroot, debootstrap and ubuntu14.04. configured schroot with the forder of u14.04, but when i lo in in schroot, the fs is the my laptop fs
ilgios 2017-02-24 10:03:10
thats's wrong
disi 2017-02-24 10:04:11
i have a script that changes my default gateway, but every day (presumably when the DHCP lease is renewed), those settings get overwritten. is there a way to prevent this?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:05:21
disi: how do you configure your network?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:05:25
network manager?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:05:47
it's got a setting to ignore automatic routes and to add custome ones
ppf 2017-02-24 10:05:48
use that
disi 2017-02-24 10:06:16
ppf: well DHCP for everything, then the script uses `ip route ...`
disi 2017-02-24 10:06:45
ppf: aha, ok hopefully there is a way to toggle that from the CLI, thanks ill look into it
ppf 2017-02-24 10:07:09
disi: hence my question. is it nm you're using? or /etc/network/interfaces?
disi 2017-02-24 10:08:03
ppf: im not sure, this may be set in the prebuilt corporate image im using (though i have reproduced on vanilla fedora 24). how can i tell?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:09:49
paste /etc/network/interfaces.d/
ppf 2017-02-24 10:09:52
paste /etc/network/interfaces
ppf 2017-02-24 10:09:56
sorry, the latter
donofrio 2017-02-24 10:14:52

EriC^^ 2017-02-24 10:16:35
donofrio: why a plop usb image? isn't plop to use a usb on a dvd only booting machine?
donofrio 2017-02-24 10:18:15
cause my boot usb key is not booting last time I had to put plop on a cd and boot from external drive with usb hub and select the usb key would like something that doens't require all the cables
veysiubuntu 2017-02-24 10:20:15
Heloo is there any body who use sublime text for c++ compiler?
johannesg_ 2017-02-24 10:20:42

donofrio 2017-02-24 10:22:23
EriC^^, cause my boot usb key is not booting last time I had to put plop on a cd and boot from external drive with usb hub and select the usb key would like something that doens't require all the cables
EriC^^ 2017-02-24 10:22:50
donofrio: maybe create a custom ubuntu image that works with 32bit uefi and put it on a dvd?
EriC^^ 2017-02-24 10:26:52
donofrio: i'm not sure, but plop doesn't look like it has uefi support yet
gp5st 2017-02-24 10:30:05
when I try to install wine, it pulls in a bunch of 32bit libs. is there a package that is built against the 64bit ones?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:32:15
gp5st: it's built against both
gp5st 2017-02-24 10:33:07
ppf so it's normal for it to pull in a bunch of 32bit libs?
ppf 2017-02-24 10:33:33
because you need both for windows programs usually
gp5st 2017-02-24 10:33:33
ppf: ah, ok
gp5st 2017-02-24 10:33:33
thank you :)
