pavlos, diogenes_, I tried to reinstall the system and it says that the previous version is installed using "BIOS compativility mode".. Should I be using BIOS or UEFI mode.. If I also want to dual boot with windows?
diogenes_ 2017-02-28 09:49:19
ZeptoByte, first and FIRST you back up your data
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 09:49:58
It's a relative new install, and the important files are in the cloud
diogenes_ 2017-02-28 09:50:27
zeroshft, then use legacy instead of uefi and erase everything

aevl 2017-02-28 09:51:14
that appears after running sudo apt-get update
AnonyL35 2017-02-28 09:51:50
hello
anddam 2017-02-28 09:56:18
does Unity support having different Universal Access rules for different displays?
caimlas 2017-02-28 09:57:58
ducasse, so, related to the issue I mentioned earlier about systemd falling over... there's more information now, but I'm not sure how to proceed further from this: http://pastebin.com/i7cs1TJ4
Aremis117 2017-02-28 09:58:02
anddam | What are you trying to do
Aremis117 2017-02-28 09:58:39
Do you want one display to be dedicated to magnify?
caimlas 2017-02-28 10:00:36
ducasse, was hoping you might have some input on what to investigate, short of the core, of why it's falling over.
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:01:16
caimlas | Whats going on?
caimlas 2017-02-28 10:02:20
Aremis117, systemd-udevd is falling over (seemingly) randomly on a 16.04.02 VM, as is pretty much the whole of everything else related to systemd. It may be by my own doing, but I am not certain what as of yet.
caimlas 2017-02-28 10:02:54
systemd being what it is, and not terribly robust, doesn't appear to provide sufficient log data for diagnosis.
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:05:54
Try OpenRC
anddam 2017-02-28 10:05:55
Aremis117: I have a 13" 1080p where I use Large Text setting, when I connect the external display, 1080p but 23", I'd like that to not have large text
the_ktosiek 2017-02-28 10:06:01
Ugh, I'm seeing Ubuntu switching to another VT on Alt+Left / Alt+Right. Is that a new thing?
the_ktosiek 2017-02-28 10:06:24
I'm pretty sure Alt+Left wasn't doing this (I'm using this shortcut a lot in the browser)
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:08:29
anddam | There should be something in options for unity to treat every display individually. Thought I use mate and haven't played with unity in a long time. Its in the same menu as having the side bar on every screen though.
anddam 2017-02-28 10:09:03
Aremis117: I figure I get the panel
anddam 2017-02-28 10:09:15
btw anything about having more verbose output from deja-dup?
anddam 2017-02-28 10:09:35
my user can ssh into the configured ssh host, and I have my pub key in remote authorized
anddam 2017-02-28 10:09:50
also my remote user can write in the target folder
anddam 2017-02-28 10:11:03
I tried running it manually but it doesn't have a --verbose, and DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 suggested at http://askubuntu.com/a/191003 has no (apparent) effect
anddam 2017-02-28 10:11:14
I tried env DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup
anddam 2017-02-28 10:11:37
I expected some more output in CLI but I just got the gtk window with "permission denied" displayed
anddam 2017-02-28 10:12:18
~/.cache/deja-dup is empty
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:12:38
anddam | Theres also features like the OSX style magnify stuff that you could use 9IE hold cntrl + alt + mousewheel up or down to zoom in).
anddam 2017-02-28 10:13:04
Aremis117: oh that's nice, I used to use that quite often on macos
pavlos 2017-02-28 10:14:30
ZeptoByte, I thought you were trying to recover the existing system, hence the link
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 10:17:29
pavlos, Yeah I was, but it didn't look like I could get it to work again :/ Anyways now i'm reinstalling the system
pavlos 2017-02-28 10:17:47
ZeptoByte, ok
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:17:59
anddam | Yeah there should be something like that available to you.p
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 10:18:09
I didn't loose any important data. I just need to use some time, setting everything up again..
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 10:18:56
But thank you so much for your help, anyways. pavlos
pavlos 2017-02-28 10:19:14
ZeptoByte, np
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 10:19:24
I
ZeptoByte 2017-02-28 10:20:22
I've always been suprised, of how nice the ubuntu community is. ;)
anddam 2017-02-28 10:21:33
Aremis117: the Screen Display pane, the one that allows you to say "put dock in all monitors", cannot split Universal Access, it can only switch between mirroring and split screen
anddam 2017-02-28 10:21:48
Aremis117: but the Universal Access setting will be global
RedPenguin 2017-02-28 10:23:06
hello all
RedPenguin 2017-02-28 10:23:40
I know of cron for scheduled tasks, but is there any thing similar to Windows's Task Scheduler to run a GUI/bash script, I can see open up in a terminal and see in foreground vs background?
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:24:29
anddam | I remember something like enabling one screen for accessibility options or something like that. Maybe I'm just thinking of the 12.04 beta :\
Aremis117 2017-02-28 10:24:33
Sorry
anddam 2017-02-28 10:25:24
oh damn, I typed in a wrong path, that's why deja-dup wasn't working
anddam 2017-02-28 10:25:35
Aremis117: np, thanks for the info
anddam 2017-02-28 10:26:18
how can I add a dot folder in a Gtk file dialog?
anddam 2017-02-28 10:27:01
nvm, right click "show hidden files"
OerHeks 2017-02-28 10:27:10
ctrl H
anddam 2017-02-28 10:27:20
I'd like to be able to type in a path tho', is there such a thing in Gtk's file dialog?
astemir 2017-02-28 10:28:53
help me please
scottjl 2017-02-28 10:29:28
astemir: state your problem
anddam 2017-02-28 10:34:16
scottjl: just hepl!
anddam 2017-02-28 10:34:21
and ragequit
scottjl 2017-02-28 10:35:06
maybe their link was the problem?
anddam 2017-02-28 10:36:37
I have an actual problem with CUPS and Broterh MFC-250C printer (multifunction inkjet)
anddam 2017-02-28 10:37:32
I installed lpr and CUPS wrapper deb packages from manufacturer, CUPS correctly recognizes the USB printer and assign the proper driver, but then jobs are simply accepted and immediately marked as completed but the printer doesn't do a thing
anddam 2017-02-28 10:37:39
I don't know where to get more info
nacc 2017-02-28 10:37:51
anddam: if you are using debs from the mfr, probably from them
anddam 2017-02-28 10:38:08
I mean from logs or so,there are no issues or error in CUPS logs
unstablevet 2017-02-28 10:38:15
when i use lsusb i cant see my integrated webcam what do i need to do from there?
anddam 2017-02-28 10:38:37
nacc: pfff, I figure it's magnificent on their side already to even have bothered about providing those in first place
nacc 2017-02-28 10:38:46
anddam: or just use a printer that works with linux
anddam 2017-02-28 10:39:05
nacc: trying to be smart, with wise suggestions?
nacc 2017-02-28 10:39:24
anddam: if cups isn't logging anything, then i'm not sure if it's not the printer or driver
nacc 2017-02-28 10:39:33
anddam: at which point, you'd need to ask the driver author for how to debug
anddam 2017-02-28 10:39:46
nacc: nothing that I can see, I checked the logs from web ui
anddam 2017-02-28 10:39:59
anyway, I'll try again tomorrow, I'm tired now
anddam 2017-02-28 10:40:07
thanks for the attention anyway

Simonious 2017-02-28 10:44:07
nacc: perhaps?
OerHeks 2017-02-28 10:44:20
Simonious, here is a clue .. Puppet Labs Release Key expires soon https://tickets.puppetlabs.com/browse/CPR-317
Pici 2017-02-28 10:44:21
Simonious: have you tried it recently? It may have been affected by the AWS outage.
