JFox762 2017-03-03 23:48:38

insiad 2017-03-03 23:48:45
frib: did you try changing bios not to use uefi see if your USB boots
craptalk 2017-03-03 23:49:17
I got samba error, please check this http://pastebin.com/6D65quti
craptalk 2017-03-03 23:49:41
i tried few times, and still no clue
frib 2017-03-03 23:49:47
insiad, my bios has legacy support, it doesn't boot either way i have tried every possible combination
insiad 2017-03-03 23:51:00
frib: did you create a uefi partition on USB
frib 2017-03-03 23:51:20
insiad, did you read my question?
frib 2017-03-03 23:51:49
because you're literally asking me everything that i stated in my question
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:52:20
JFox762: pretty sure you can install the nvidia drivers without the card being in the machine
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:52:37
It didn't let me
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:52:48
So...
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:52:49
JFox762: what didn't let you?
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:52:54
Linux
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:53:01
or rather the program
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:53:06
it said it did not detect the card
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:53:17
JFox762: _which_ program?
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:53:46
the drivers I downloaded from NVIDIA
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:54:00
JFox762: you shouldn't use those at all.
craptalk 2017-03-03 23:54:03
I got samba error, please check this http://pastebin.com/6D65quti
frib 2017-03-03 23:54:25
does anyone know how to fix the EFI on a usb installation?
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:54:27
Shouldn't use what? Drivers from NVidia?
anonymous 2017-03-03 23:54:44
hi
insiad 2017-03-03 23:54:46
frib: I think I did this by instilling bootloader to root partition of install instead of device
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:54:49
JFox762: yes. install the correct drivers from the repo for your card from the command line, shut down, plug the card in and boot the system.
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:55:31
JFox762: don't download software from websites to install, all you need should be in the repos.
zoli__ 2017-03-03 23:55:47
hi. How can I get back the color icons of the hdd in nautilus, as it was in earlier ubuntus? Now from trusty there are only fix monochrome icons!
frib 2017-03-03 23:56:11
insiad, i tried that too
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:56:26
JFox762: also, have you tried booting with nomodeset with the nvidia card plugged in?
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:56:50
im trying to
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:57:19
I just can't make sense of the this website, so https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:58:13
JFox762: what is it you don't understand?
JFox762 2017-03-03 23:58:40
i dont know how to run nomodeset
ducasse 2017-03-03 23:59:36
JFox762: read the "How to temporarily set kernel boot options on an installed OS (not wubi)" section on that link, it explains everything.
JFox762 2017-03-04 00:00:47
that link has broken images
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:01:58
JFox762: you shouldn't really need them, there is only one line that starts with linux, and you just put nomodeset at the end
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:03:50
JFox762: besides, you're not permanently changing anything, it's just for one boot so you can get the drivers installed.
JFox762 2017-03-04 00:04:47
DO I type a space after "quiet splash $vt_handoff"
JFox762 2017-03-04 00:06:18
Ok it worked,
smahan83 2017-03-04 00:06:43
what worked?

itsgokul it works, we see you
itsgokul 2017-03-04 00:15:12
:P
k1l_ 2017-03-04 00:15:12
itsgokul: stop that in here.
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:15:14
itsgokul: cut it out, it wasn't funny before, it isn't funny now
itsgokul 2017-03-04 00:15:37

ducasse 2017-03-04 00:16:04

ok.. okk...
ph88 2017-03-04 00:17:04
tracker-extract and tracker-store always eat all my cpu, what's the recommended way to stop it? I already tried http://askubuntu.com/a/353450/231084
itsgokul 2017-03-04 00:18:22
good
itsgokul 2017-03-04 00:21:05
which ubutu version
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:22:26
ph88: you want to permanently stop it from running?
ph88 2017-03-04 00:23:19
well if it would work properly it can just run ... but if it's eating all my cpu for long periods of time i don't want this
ph88 2017-03-04 00:23:31
so whatever it's doing is fine as long as it doesn't eat my cpu
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:23:48
ph88: which ubuntu version?
ph88 2017-03-04 00:23:54
16.04
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:24:26
ph88: did you try all the things that are mentioned on that link for 16.04?
ph88 2017-03-04 00:24:58
i only tried that one answer
ph88 2017-03-04 00:25:12
The values could be changed using dconf-editor by navigating through org > freedesktop > Tracker > Miner > Files
ph88 2017-03-04 00:25:14
this i tried
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:26:02
ph88: why not the others, especially the one about using the gui to set it to only run when the machine is not in use?
JFox762 2017-03-04 00:26:06
Is there a way to get Ubuntu to recognize middle mouse click (scroll wheel click) and allow for a "super fast scroll" like you can do in windows?
ph88 2017-03-04 00:26:23
ducasse, which one you mean ?
MonkeyDust 2017-03-04 00:27:13
JFox762 yes, that's what the middle scroll wheel normally does
diogenes_ 2017-03-04 00:28:18
ph88, the right things that worked for me is the "echo -e "\nHidden=" comands
diogenes_ 2017-03-04 00:28:25
so do those ones
ph88 2017-03-04 00:29:33
diogenes_, here it says it's best done in my .config local directory https://gist.github.com/vancluever/d34b41eb77e6d077887c#startup-files so i copy the desktop files there and then change them ?
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:29:35
ph88: install tracker-gui, then the last bit here http://askubuntu.com/a/499777
ducasse 2017-03-04 00:30:57
ph88: if that doesn't work - http://askubuntu.com/a/779443
ph88 2017-03-04 00:31:23
ducasse, ok i changed stuff with the gui .. lets hope it works in the future
diogenes_ 2017-03-04 00:33:49
ph88, I personally did this: 1 navigate to /etc/xdg/autostart open every single tracker.desktop files in a text editor and just added this following line to every one of them: Hidden=true, save the files and reboot
Zta 2017-03-04 00:34:28
I'm about to backup a video dvd and I'm wondering what tool to use. I've just tried Handbrake and my ripped file gets quite large like 1.2GB for about 1½ hours of mp4 with normal profile. Is this normal? "Usually" files are about 600MB but perhaps they've been limited that way to fix a disc?
FMan 2017-03-04 00:38:27
that sounds normal
FMan 2017-03-04 00:38:59
remember that DVD has a 4 GB capacity
FMan 2017-03-04 00:39:57
if I backed up a DVD, I would just copy the files out of it (but I suppose MPEG-2 is too bad for ppl nowadays (I remember for someone it was already ten years ago))
Zta 2017-03-04 00:42:04
Okay.
Zta 2017-03-04 00:42:47
Good to know =) And you're right about the 4GB. I suppose a 1:4 reduction in size is okay.
Zta 2017-03-04 00:44:46
FMan, but you'd prefer to copy the VOB files? Aren' t they a little messy to playback on a tablet and in general?
