anddam: My logics tells me that SSH is encrypted, NFS isn't and therefore it's faster. That's one advantage.

anddam: Argh sorry, that my stupid irc client was stuck in some ancient question about NFS over SSHFS =)
enw2512 2017-03-06 08:14:45
Zta: the nice thing about sshfs is you simply need a normal ssh account on the server side
Zta 2017-03-06 08:15:37
enw2512: I know. I prefer ssh(fs) myself. But the original question was, what are the advantages of NFS over sshfs.

Zta: NFS has quite the initial overhead, but it's way more portable and implements locking mechanisms, safer to use on multiple locations at once. plus NFS is not encrypted and therefore -after the initial overhead- often a bit faster.
FinalX 2017-03-06 08:17:34
plus NFS is on a root level and supports multiple UID's, whereas sshfs does not

Good points.
tatertots 2017-03-06 08:19:58
Zta: there are white papers that you can read for nfs and ssh, if your ubuntu is working fine....you might need to find some reading material to consume
