rtbt 2017-03-09 02:46:30
does ubuntu do personal paid support?
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:46:42
rtbt: canonical does
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:46:45
I can only find commercial prices on canonical's website
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:47:15
minimum 50 computers
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:47:17

k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:48:32

rtbt 2017-03-09 02:49:20
my screen is pixelated
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:49:27
I'm running 16.10
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:49:32
so its a video driver issue?
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:49:46
I've installed the propriety drivers
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:50:19
the gpu is an nvidia geforce 710a
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:51:27
I've done a fresh install
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:52:02
so the driver doesnt work?
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:52:14
what driver did you use? did it work before?
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:52:18
i've attempted -nomodeset and nouveau.blacklist=1 in an attempt to get it to work
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:52:31
the driver works in that it recognizes the correct resolution
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:52:39
and functions correctly in all other regards
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:52:43
other than this pixelation
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:52:58
it's driving me nuts
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:53:26
grub2 is unaffected and displays the same resolution without pixelation
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:54:00
does the guest account work correctly?
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:54:14
yes
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:54:19
I mean
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:54:21
so its only on your user?
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:54:22
the same
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:54:32
sorry, it's still pixelated in the guest account
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:54:57
so its a driver issue. look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log what is erroring
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:55:20
righto, I'll check now
djdks 2017-03-09 02:57:09
good. 128x48 resolution is so much better
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:57:27
[ 41.653] (EE) NOUVEAU(G0): [XvMC] Failed to initialize extension.
BluesKaj 2017-03-09 02:58:13
rtbt, the latest stable driver for your card is the nvidia-375.39
k1l_ 2017-03-09 02:58:14
rtbt: so its not using the nvidia driver at all? so there were errors when you isntalled it? did you read the errors?
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:58:20
I've got it running on nouveau as it doesn't make a difference (to the pixelated issue) whether I have nvidia drivers or the nouveau
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:58:41
kll_ no I did not, I'm new to this tbh.
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:58:56
so I was unaware of the error log until you told me about it
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:58:58
-_-
rtbt 2017-03-09 02:59:58
k1l_ I'll reinstall the driver, and check what shows
rtbt 2017-03-09 03:00:30
k1l_ will do

I have an ubuntu-UEFI system that keeps magically recreating my EFI boot entries even if I manually delete them via `efibootmgr -b XXXX -B`. They show up as gone but as soon as I reboot they're there again. Huh?
