hackr3 2017-03-04 23:45:14
someone know how to make windows control in the right side?
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:45:29
haha literally looks exactly like my HDD
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:45:41
i do have a cert from adata in forensic analysis
ATF 2017-03-04 23:45:51
I'm trying to install 16.04 LTS from DVD. I get as far as the inatll screen, selected inatll and it stops after a certain period (it gets as far as started wpa_supplicant if that's relevant). Any ideas on what is going wrong? I'm intalling on Dell Inpiron 15
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:46:00
digitalshiba: really? That's awesome!
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:46:46
digitalshiba: now the thing is I don't have the MBP that the HDD is from, am I going to have issues if I plug that into the SATA port of my desktop?
MonkeyDust 2017-03-04 23:46:49
ATF wpa is wifi relate ... are you installing with cable, or wireless
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:47:42
yeah we did all kinds of cool stuff for that cert :)
ATF 2017-03-04 23:48:15
from DVD - it is WiFi not cable
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:48:17
if its a sata drive you shouldn't have any issue
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:48:25
doesn't matter what type of device it came from
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:48:41
digitalshiba: OS X won't have an issue booting?
MonkeyDust 2017-03-04 23:49:01
digitalshiba first use a cable to install ubuntu, it's faster and easier than wifi ... then configure wifi
ATF 2017-03-04 23:49:47
does it need internet access if I'm unstalling from CD?
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:50:01
oh i'm not saying boot it, im saying to recover the contents off of the drive
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:50:30
like if you were going to plug it in, after you check it out and wanted to transfer the contents to another drive
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:51:08
thats what i thought you were suggesting, if you do not have the laptop it came out of depending on the type of encryption that maybe an issue
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:51:26
i'm not too familiar with macbooks
clissold345 2017-03-04 23:51:30
ATF, no.
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:51:34
digitalshiba: assuming I could clone it, how would I go about recovering the data?
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:52:11
if you wanted to clone the drive, assuming you could actually get it to a point to where it is readable
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:52:32
you would then mount the drive and create an image of it using something like autopsy
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:53:01
then you could take that image and put it on a physical machine or even a mac os virtual machine and provided you know the encryption key
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:53:24
then hopefully (assuming a successful image) you could access what was on the drive
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:53:37
digitalshiba: the decryption is done by logging in to the account
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:54:06
ideally though if you get your drive to a working state, you just want it powered on long enough to make an image of it
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:54:21
and work with that
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:54:49
digitalshiba: ah so I guess my first move is to open this drive
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:55:11
if that fails then wash rinse repeat, and okay then if it is os encrypted then try moving forward :)
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:55:17
digitalshiba: here I go! (the drive and tools are in front of me right now) wish me luck lol
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:55:31
and its totally up to you but, you could spend the money or go for it
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:55:54
digitalshiba: by moving forward, do you mean just forget about the data lmao
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:56:01
all depends on how critical the data is
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:56:11
digitalshiba: I mean I have already gone through the greiving process xD
srikanth 2017-03-04 23:56:32
ls
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:56:40
well if you've already counted it as a loss then you can at least try i suppose :)
Guest96477 2017-03-04 23:56:50
Rohi@1993
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:57:08
just be careful make sure you have read a few things before you make an actual attempt
Guest96477 2017-03-04 23:57:23
hi
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:57:44
digitalshiba: haha I mean I've kinda tried to imagine it's gone to prepare for the worst but if I can recover it I would be so happy you have no idea
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:58:07
have a full plan before hand, hard drive restoration and forensics is fairly methodical, its not rocket science though by any means
d_ven0m 2017-03-04 23:58:21
digitalshiba: any suggestions?
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:58:49
check out some videos on youtube first
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:58:59
just on physical hard drive repair
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:59:22
also check out a few things on how to use autopsy which is available for free on sourceforge
digitalshiba 2017-03-04 23:59:54
you can also use diskdrill on windows for free (much simpler to use than autopsy)
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:00:05
digitalshiba: I might sound really dumb right now, but can I hotplug the drive into a SATA port on my desktop
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:00:16
make sure you have a clean environment
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:00:42
last thing that i would try doing if I were you and if you don't have the setting enabled in your bios or the feature on your mb then no
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:01:29
digitalshiba: ok so then I'll not do that haha
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:01:43
haha yeah best not to :)
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:02:20
you could also just spend $12 on one of these https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-SATA-Drive-Adapter-Cable/dp/B00HJZJI84/ref=pd_lpo_147_lp_t_3/151-9415199-2883829?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=R13RFR5CK5QCJXGSFNPE
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:02:52
digitalshiba: damn never mind don't have the right bit size :(((
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:03:05
digitalshiba: literally one size off
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:03:23
ah man that sucks :/
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:04:36
and that adpater is for ssd btw but they make one for normal hard drives im tired though and lazy lol
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:04:51
digitalshiba: How did you go about getting a HDD certificate?
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:04:57
its pretty late here think im going to call it quits
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:05:09
it was part of my degree
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:05:30
we had a whole quarter that was just forensic analysis
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:05:51
digitalshiba: What degree if you don't mind me asking? I know you're tired I don't want to keep you up
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:06:17
oh no your fine :)
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:06:38
infosec
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:07:21
digitalshiba: Oh, cool! Does that differ from cybersec?
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:08:02
no same thing, we covered pentesting, recon, social engineering
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:08:22
pretty fun :) all depends on where you let it take you though
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:08:35
digitalshiba: was that in a BS degree or MS?
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:08:43
my focus has been on networking for the most part but, i would like to focus more on security
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:09:09
it was an associates at a technical college actually
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:09:53
wow that's amazing!
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:10:25
I can't wait to go to school

Hi, running Ubuntu 16.04 with VirtualBox 5.1.12r112440 and Vagrant 1.9.1. Trying to create a VM using Vagrant for one of our work repos, as it is using a Laravel Homestead image, and getting the following error message: https://bpaste.net/show/0444196bb8e2
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:10:48
yeah it was a really good school :) i've been through tech programs before and that place was really impressive
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:11:19
learned a lot, had great professors and really showed me the value in good instructors
digitalshiba 2017-03-05 00:11:33
a university name or w/e doesn't matter
d_ven0m 2017-03-05 00:11:49
digitalshiba: literally nothing better than when your teachers are great at what they do and can teach well
aruns 2017-03-05 00:11:51
My shell is Fish, version 2.5.
cdidd 2017-03-05 00:22:37
Does anybody know if Chromium in repos built with rlz identifier or not?
gde33 2017-03-05 00:25:48
MonkeyDust: it showed a lot of java entries, after shutting down my yacy deamon things went back to normal. The strange thing is that there use to be an entry in the system monitor eating up cpu when yacy was running.
gde33 2017-03-05 00:26:18
I think it was called Java
gde33 2017-03-05 00:27:15
o well, ill just use htop from now on. Thanks for the emergency help :)
aruns 2017-03-05 00:33:17

I seem to need the vboxnetadp and vboxnetflt kernel modules but don't seem to have these installed atm.
aruns 2017-03-05 00:40:22
Ah looks like I might need to install virtualbox-host-dkms.
MonkeyDust 2017-03-05 00:41:31
aruns sudo apt-get install dkms; sudo modprobe vboxdrv;sudo modprobe vboxnetflt
aruns 2017-03-05 00:41:32
Yep it might be working now =D
MonkeyDust 2017-03-05 00:41:41
ok
aruns 2017-03-05 00:41:49
MonkeyDust: Yeah, vboxdrv is already loaded
aruns 2017-03-05 00:41:57
And I ran sudo apt-get install virtualbox-dkms
aruns 2017-03-05 00:42:11
Should be OK now.
