alkisg 2017-03-04 05:49:43
pjgrep: go to network manager and in the ipv6 tab, put "local only"
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:49:48
pjgrep, afer upgrading to 14 .04 ?
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:49:51
that's the old lts
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:50:32
I'm not sure how this machine ended on trusty (lts). It may have been an upgrade to trusty lts.
Tex_Nick 2017-03-04 05:50:34
pjgrep: have you looked in "Network Manager" to see if in the "IPv6 Settings" tab "Require IPv6 addressing for this connection to complete" is checked ?
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:50:47
!trusty
ubottu 2017-03-04 05:50:47
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) was the 20th release of Ubuntu. Download at http://releases.ubuntu.com/14.04/ - CHECK FOR POINT RELEASES at http://releases.ubuntu.com - Release Info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/ReleaseNotes
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:50:54
Tex_Nick, alkisg -- checking...
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:51:23
pjgrep, it can only upgrade to 14.04, if you upgraded from the unsupported 13.10 or th previous lts before that 12.04
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:51:58
SebthreeBQM10HD, that's understood.
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:52:30
I'm just not sure if it was a clean install or if I upgraded from unsupported or previous.
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:52:46
pjgrep, seems you got internet issue I just joined, but yeah to the upgrades. I would suggest upgrading to 16.04 lts though, even though 14.04 will be supported for another year or so yet
ruffleS 2017-03-04 05:52:50
diogenes_: i'm rebooting the machine now. hope it works. cheers!
diogenes_ 2017-03-04 05:53:01
ok
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:54:50
pjgrep, and things dont just upgrde, someone has to tell it too, in response to 14.04 upgrade
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:55:25
HOw do I get to network manager? I've gone to settings (cogwheel) ---> system settings --> hardware--> network ---> mobile broadband (which is what I am using now)
SebthreeBQM10HD 2017-03-04 05:55:41
pjgrep, a clean install of 16.04 lts, might be a good way to go
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:56:56
SebthreeBQM10HD, yup. Just wanna try and fix this --- it's the only thing that is left bothering me for now. I can worry about upgrade to 16.04 later.
Tex_Nick 2017-03-04 05:57:11
pjgrep: now click on Options ... bottom right
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:58:19
Tex_Nick, that's currently grayed out. presumable 'cos I'm using it :-/
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:59:03
I guess I should be going offline, and changing require ipv6 addressing, yeah?\
pjgrep 2017-03-04 05:59:24
I'll give it a shot
Tex_Nick 2017-03-04 06:00:15
pjgrep: in terminal ... nm-connection-editor
kaz 2017-03-04 06:01:13
#ubuntu
Tex_Nick 2017-03-04 06:02:37
pjgrep: click on your connection "Name" then "Edit"
dekon 2017-03-04 06:02:53
is someone using mate? Looks like my Sound Effect -> Alert Volume level is not being saved
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:03:47
Tex_Nick, nm-connection-editor opened up a gui. I explored it, but saw no ipv6 items in the tabs
Tex_Nick 2017-03-04 06:07:47
pjgrep: hmmm strange, on every 14.04 i've seen, this is what it looks like ... http://imgur.com/a/GiO0K
alkisg 2017-03-04 06:08:38
Maybe he didn't yet click to edit his connection, and he's in the main dialog still...
dekon 2017-03-04 06:09:54
hmm same issue described here, no answer -> http://askubuntu.com/questions/886928/problem-with-alert-sound
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:12:52
Tex_Nick, I actually have no ipv6 tab. my tabs are: general | mobile broadband | ppp settings | ipv4 settings. And that's it, even afters stretching the window horizontally.
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:13:12
I guess it is some weirdness to do with connection method.
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:13:34
buried inside the isp offering.
ioria 2017-03-04 06:14:55
pjgrep, no ipv6 tab ? you can check in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections and sudo cat my-connection
alkisg 2017-03-04 06:15:12
pjgrep: if you want to completely disable ipv6, google for "disable ipv6 ubuntu", there's an easy method for it using sysctl
fotografoLombard 2017-03-04 06:16:30
.it
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:16:43
ioria, it shows an ipv4 stanza, no ipv6
ioria 2017-03-04 06:17:05
pjgrep, interesting
ioria 2017-03-04 06:17:41
pjgrep, cat /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
s0b 2017-03-04 06:18:31
Morning all
pjgrep 2017-03-04 06:18:58
ioria, thanks. I was waiting for alkisig's suggestion to resolve in its own sweet time in the browser ;-)
s0b 2017-03-04 06:19:31
I've run into a situation where available drive space differs between df and du/ls. I have been unable to locate the offending files and directories
s0b 2017-03-04 06:20:02
Does anybody have suggestions beyond lsof?
semitones_ 2017-03-04 06:23:41
hey what's the difference between putting something in /etc/crontab and doing sudo crontab -e?
s0b 2017-03-04 06:24:09
harder to screw up the second one maybe ;)
alkisg 2017-03-04 06:24:14
s0b: what file system? do you have big sparse files or big deleted files that are still in use?
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:25:04
hi
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:25:13
how are you guys?
s0b 2017-03-04 06:25:24
ext4 and lsof gives me nada. I rebooted and mounted it on a live boot atm
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:26:00
i lost my connectivity through ssh because of wrong configuration
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:26:07
can i fix this?
alkisg 2017-03-04 06:26:30
s0b: Well, if you rebooted it's not a "deleted but in use" issue. What do you see with df and what with du?
semitones_ 2017-03-04 06:26:45
thanks s0b
s0b 2017-03-04 06:31:29
alkisg, looks like counts total proper now :/
s0b 2017-03-04 06:31:38
+/- 1G
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:32:01
linuxlove: you mean you screwed up sshd config and now you can't connect?
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:32:15
ducasse, yes
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:33:06
i changed /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny to wrong configuration
tgm4883 2017-03-04 06:33:32
linuxlove: remove those and restart SSH
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:34:00
tgm4883, i dont have access to server now
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:34:11
linuxlove: is it a vps?
tgm4883 2017-03-04 06:34:17
linuxlove: .... Then how do you expect to fix it?
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:34:22
ducasse, yes
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:34:39
linuxlove: some providers give you console access
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:35:11
ducasse, can i fix in console?
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:35:35
i sent a ticket for provider
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:35:43
linuxlove: if it will let you login, yes
tgm4883 2017-03-04 06:35:51
linuxlove: if you made changes that broke something, logic would usually dictate that if you revert the changes you made it would work again
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:36:30
i am waiting for my provider response
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:37:18
linuxlove: just see if they give you console access through webui
linuxlove 2017-03-04 06:38:21
vps is on wmware
s0b 2017-03-04 06:39:19
alkisg, is it possible im getting wierd problems because i have /var and a /var/lib/XXX
s0b 2017-03-04 06:39:26
like two seperate partitions
s0b 2017-03-04 06:40:35
i rebooted and df is telling me 16g /var, and 3.4g from /var/lib/xxx. du in /var is giving 4g total
s0b 2017-03-04 06:40:53
but even 4 + 3.4 is half of 16
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:41:59
s0b: there could be data in /var that /var/lib/xxx is mounted on top of
ducasse 2017-03-04 06:42:40
s0b: so the remaining data in /var is hidden to du
s0b 2017-03-04 06:42:52
i just umount, trying du again
