nacc 2017-03-08 11:47:11
`evl: as the name implies, unattended-upgrades is unattended
nacc 2017-03-08 11:47:20
`evl: runs in the background as specified in its config
`evl 2017-03-08 11:48:04
wow, im blind as Fkkk today
k1l 2017-03-08 11:48:04
Scoop7: afaik, that is set with the language settings standard.
`evl 2017-03-08 11:49:55
nacc, where is that confexactly?
`evl 2017-03-08 11:50:19
apperently i have this installed but its like it doesnt run
nacc 2017-03-08 11:50:47
`evl: apt-file list or dpkg -L unattended-upgrades --> /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
MediocreN 2017-03-08 11:51:56
nacc: is his issue the wait timer on shutdown/bootup with unattended?
toothe 2017-03-08 11:53:23
So, I'm reading https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkConfigurationCommandLine/Automatic
toothe 2017-03-08 11:53:29
Is there a tool to configure this?
nacc 2017-03-08 11:53:46
MediocreN: not that i know of
nacc 2017-03-08 11:53:52
MediocreN: what issue is that? is there a bug filed?
nacc 2017-03-08 11:53:59
toothe: network manager?
nacc 2017-03-08 11:54:20
toothe: nmcli / nmtui
`evl 2017-03-08 11:57:08
apt-file i like... thanks
MediocreN 2017-03-08 11:58:25
nacc: i havent seen one filed, but i've seen people have been having issues with it the last few days
MediocreN 2017-03-08 11:58:25
just adding that service to start on boot fixes everything
nacc 2017-03-08 11:58:25
MediocreN: always good to get a bug filed by one of those people, if possible
nacc 2017-03-08 11:58:25
MediocreN: ah it's trying to stop a service it never started?
`evl 2017-03-08 11:59:39
i dint have apt-file installed..
`evl 2017-03-08 11:59:47
lol
MediocreN 2017-03-08 11:59:51
nacc: yeah, it sits there with a x/no limit timer too
MediocreN 2017-03-08 11:59:55
its really shitty
nacc 2017-03-08 12:00:36
`evl: not installed by default
`evl 2017-03-08 12:00:36
makes snese
nacc 2017-03-08 12:01:16
MediocreN: oh i see, it's a oneshot on shutdown only
nacc 2017-03-08 12:01:21
MediocreN: unattended-upgrades itself is not a service
nacc 2017-03-08 12:02:11
MediocreN: looks like it logs, /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades-shutdown.log
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:02:21
i believe if you: sudo crontab -e and enter: @reboot
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:02:21
/etc/init.d/unattended-upgrades start
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:02:38
it works as normal now
nacc 2017-03-08 12:02:42
MediocreN: that's not necessary
nacc 2017-03-08 12:02:47
MediocreN: something else is the actual root cause, i believe
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:02:53
oh, sorry didnt read your message
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:02:56
why messing with unattended updates at all?
nacc 2017-03-08 12:03:01
MediocreN: as that service is what is waiting for an unattended upgrade to finish
nacc 2017-03-08 12:03:24
OerHeks: dunno, i was just told there was a problem with it
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:03:27
hmm, so mine is merely a work around, and even then wouldnt work if you shutdown right after boot
nacc 2017-03-08 12:04:01
MediocreN: right -- aiui, everything is working as designed, but for some reason there is a pending unattended-upgrade that your system was waiting on
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:04:01
i've seen 4-5 people in the last week with this issue, 2 of them being today
nacc 2017-03-08 12:04:08
MediocreN: interesting
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:04:28
impatience .. happens all the time.
nacc 2017-03-08 12:04:36
MediocreN: well, if they show up again, ping me, I'd liek to help debug it
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:04:49
i will do it was
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:04:56
hmm
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:05:00
he isnt in chat anymore nvm
MediocreN 2017-03-08 12:05:28
freakynl was the users name
`evl 2017-03-08 12:07:13
naac apt-file list or dpkg -L unattended-upgrades
`evl 2017-03-08 12:07:13
Unknown option: L
`evl 2017-03-08 12:07:47
ohh, nvm
nacc 2017-03-08 12:08:15
MediocreN: ack, thanks
nacc 2017-03-08 12:08:30
`evl: sorry, was in a hurry
`evl 2017-03-08 12:09:00
its cool, i realzed the or after and was like, oh, facepalm
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:10:40
MediocreN, Yes ir ead him, vmware install, then claims It's a bare installed .. then 2 vm's .. then 10 vm's .. then differences between hyperv/vmware .. and on top of that: Server only has 256M .. /facepalm
xet 2017-03-08 12:31:19
Hey, I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 on my Asus Laptop and the sound is quite strange. Although the stereo works perfectly, my headphones only manage to produce some noises. How do I work this around?
Chloe__ 2017-03-08 12:31:50
thats odd
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:38:30
xet, i use clementine for music, excellent equaliser
xet 2017-03-08 12:38:51
OerHeks, what do you mean?
xet 2017-03-08 12:39:17
Any sound is noisy, distorted, from youtube videos to downloaded music :(
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:39:21
xet, standard settings are dull indeed
OerHeks 2017-03-08 12:39:36
oh, no, that is not regular behaviour
xet 2017-03-08 12:40:13
I wish it was just poor sound quality from a music player :/
carlf 2017-03-08 12:40:18
I feel like I must be missing something. I have a service that starts via /etc/init/rc as a SysV init script. The upstart job that sets a sysctl I need seems to be running after it. Is there a simple way to fix that? Nothing coming up via google.
genii 2017-03-08 12:43:04
carlf: /etc/init is where upstart stuff is. /etc/init.d is where sysvinit stuff is
carlf 2017-03-08 12:43:58
I know. The problem is that /etc/init/rc which runs the SysV stuff runs before procps which runs sysctl. I need sysctl to run before mysql starts. I'm trying to do this without editing packaged files but I haven't found a way thus far.
