Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:45:46
wow that works
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:45:50
very interesting
JP____ 2017-03-07 21:46:04
Afshaal: luckily i am adept enough..... LOL
JP____ 2017-03-07 21:46:12
Well atleast you got it working
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:46:25
What kind of video can ogv hold again
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:46:28
is it just theora?
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:47:23
Seriously though, what audio codec in particular do you think is better than Opus, Ben64?
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:48:34
ogg, ac3, whatever the source is
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:49:02
ogg is a container to hold Vorbis or Opus audio ;)
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:49:16
aac was competitive with Vorbus, but Opus blows it away
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:49:32
(Opus being the next generation codec after Vorbis)
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:49:53
why are you re-encoding the audio anyway
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:50:05
compression of course
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:50:17
gotta keep things tidy for social media and such
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:50:26
so use a codec that actually works
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:50:32
Opus did D:<
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:50:53
h264/aac
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:50:55
works everywhere
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:52:16
I'd rather figure out what update broke most of my opus decoding
Ben64 2017-03-07 21:52:29
it wasn't an update
Afshaal 2017-03-07 21:52:33
even busted in my web browser, which I know used to read em just fine
box 2017-03-07 21:54:46

cheng1028 2017-03-07 22:04:57
hi
anddam 2017-03-07 22:09:13
oh shoot
anddam 2017-03-07 22:09:31
I just had to try and access the subdirectory for autofs to mount it
anddam 2017-03-07 22:09:47
yet it wasn't listed in ls /mntpoint and I thought there was some issue
anddam 2017-03-07 22:09:57
and I was going crazy since I couldn't figure whatthe issue was
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:10:04
Hello. I am trying to install 16.04 from USB. The installation is a success, it tells me to restart the machine, and then I get a black screen with some text that says "No bootable devices afound."
anddam 2017-03-07 22:11:26
ldleworker: BIOS/UEFI setup, I guess
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:11:38
anddam, I don't know what that means
vlt 2017-03-07 22:11:57
thekoko_: What did you do, what did you expect to happen and what happened instead?
anddam 2017-03-07 22:11:58
that, in my opinion, there's an issue with the bootloader installed and your current firmware BIOS or UEFI setup
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:12:41
anddam, what would the issue be? I was booting into Ubuntu this morning.
anddam 2017-03-07 22:12:57
ldleworker: I don't know, what partition table is the disk using?
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:13:28
I... don't know.
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:13:34
I have never had problem of this calliber installing Ubuntu.
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:14:35
I told Ubuntu to erase the disk and install
anddam 2017-03-07 22:14:55
I'm not ure how the graphical installer behaves with regard to the bootloader, I think it'll infer the proper type from the partition table and that should be GPT by default, but I'm not sure
anddam 2017-03-07 22:14:55
anyway stick around, someone more apt to help will likely reply
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:19:52
ldleworker: you could try the https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair utility
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:21:48
tomreyn, I'll give it a try
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:21:54
I keep reading that I have to install Windows WTF?
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:22:09
ldleworker: where do you read that?
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:22:20
I've read it in multiple places
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:23:31
A comment here, http://askubuntu.com/questions/848315/no-bootable-device-found-after-ubuntu-installation-hangs
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:23:44
ldleworker: when you use boot-repair, be sure to unplug any disks / drives you did not have attached while you installed ubuntu.
F1nny 2017-03-07 22:23:57
Anyone familiar with bcache by chance? Just want to confirm this is correct going for systemd-boot and bcache + lvm on luks. backing device would be /boot (ESP) then P2 would be bcache, then lvm on luks on the bcache device || cache device would just be a bcache device (full disk) -- that look right?
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:24:17
tomreyn, its just a laptop, there's nothing
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:24:28
why doesn't ImageMagick run?
doge-doge 2017-03-07 22:24:49
hey guys, is anyone having VPN connectivity issues after the latest round of NM updates yesterday?
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:26:02
ldleworker: okay. sometime people have extra usb storage devices attached and then it fails to boot. so it seemed like a good hint. ;)
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:26:19
tomreyn, just the one with ubuntu live on it
ldleworker 2017-03-07 22:26:31
gonna try the tool
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:26:35
ldleworker: yes this should be fine.
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:26:48
I couldn't have imagined it it this hard to find an picture application on Linux that can do a simple crop operation :P
hateball 2017-03-07 22:27:35
FManTropyx: imagemagick is a cli tool, in case you expected something else
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:27:49
then why is it in the menu?
hateball 2017-03-07 22:28:07
FManTropyx: you can crop with GIMP, Krita, perhaps even in the default image viewer
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:28:10
there could be pop-ups to tell me what each program does
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:28:28
I looked at Krita, but did not find crop...
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:28:57
gimp probably takes an hour to start and I don't have weeks to learn how to use something that complicated :P
hateball 2017-03-07 22:29:09
FManTropyx: in Krita it's under "Image"
hateball 2017-03-07 22:29:14
crop to selection, for instance
hateball 2017-03-07 22:29:29
maybe it's "picture" (I dont use english locale)
CrazyH 2017-03-07 22:30:11
After making some cahnges to my evdev conf, how can I reboot evdev without rebooting X?
CrazyH 2017-03-07 22:30:34
I'm running Ubuntu 16.04
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:30:34
I have no crop under Image
hateball 2017-03-07 22:31:00
FManTropyx: ah, it's called "Trim" in english
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:31:20
so it seems, so that's crop and it is called trim just to throw me off? :)
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:31:33
Krita also has a start-up pop-up, which has an empty button to close it
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:31:55
ok, it does not work
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:32:03
"Cannot use OpenGL"
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:32:21
she says she needs at least OpenGL 2.0 or ES 2.0
k1l_ 2017-03-07 22:32:41
FManTropyx: what ubuntu is that?
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:32:42
I have an up-to-date Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
hateball 2017-03-07 22:32:51
FManTropyx: What GPU/driver?
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:32:57
no idea
hateball 2017-03-07 22:33:03
an older intel chipset will only have ogl 1.4
hateball 2017-03-07 22:34:08
FManTropyx: run "lspci -k" look for the VGA section
k1l_ 2017-03-07 22:34:52
FManTropyx: lspci -nnk | grep -i vga -A3 | nc termbin.com 9999
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:35:51
welp, this is a HP business PC from 2007 with integrated Intel chips
hateball 2017-03-07 22:36:21
FManTropyx: you could try launching with "krita --graphicssystem raster"
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:36:21
or give gimp a try.
hateball 2017-03-07 22:36:21
Yep, that too
tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:36:21
hardware from 10 years ago is best placed in a museum, not on / below your desk.
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:36:21
lspci -nnk produces no output about vga
dod_ 2017-03-07 22:36:21
Hello guys!
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:36:21
why does Linux have to be so hard?
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:36:21
on Windows things just work
k1l_ 2017-03-07 22:36:21
FManTropyx: please run my command and show the link here
hateball 2017-03-07 22:36:21
No point ranting, it doesnt help fixing the problem
k1l_ 2017-03-07 22:36:28
FManTropyx: and if you just complain and dont want to solve that issue, then this is the wrong place
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:36:28
I ran lscpi -nnk and it has no output about vga
dod_ 2017-03-07 22:36:39
Somebody can help me? I want to run a program two times on my ubuntu, on windows i use profilemanager for it. There is something like profilemanager on ubuntu?
k1l_ 2017-03-07 22:37:12
dod_: what program?
FManTropyx 2017-03-07 22:37:23
there are lots of warnings
dod_ 2017-03-07 22:37:24

doge-doge 2017-03-07 22:37:35

stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:40:04

stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:40:19

tomreyn 2017-03-07 22:40:45
doge-doge: that's not a support question. and you should install security updates no matter what.
stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:41:02
or maybe system monitor
dod_ 2017-03-07 22:41:10
yea i got system monitor
stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:41:19

dod_ 2017-03-07 22:41:24

doge-doge 2017-03-07 22:41:35
i'm wondering if it's interfering with vpn connections since it has a new "captive portal detection" feature...
stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:41:44
dont go on a killin rampage. what you looking to do?
stratocastorNM 2017-03-07 22:41:56
