ramsRambo 2017-03-08 20:48:04
ducasse ; if I do sudo apt update ---> I am getting a msg "could not get lock on /var/lib/apt/lists/lock"
ramsRambo 2017-03-08 20:48:38
ducasse ; I am getting that msg b'cos I canceled out of sw updater
ducasse 2017-03-08 20:49:03
ramsRambo: is the updater completely closed?
diogenes_ 2017-03-08 20:49:17
ramsRambo, it means that you have update manager opened close it and work only in terminal
ramsRambo 2017-03-08 20:49:29
ducasse ; yes, it is closed
ramsRambo 2017-03-08 20:49:47
ducasse ; I have rebooted also
diogenes_ 2017-03-08 20:50:03
ramsRambo, close any application except hexchat and terminal and try the given command once again
gnomethrower 2017-03-08 20:58:10
ramsRambo: careful using -rf - it's only for situations that really call for it :)
gnomethrower 2017-03-08 20:58:23
in case you weren't already aware. -r is recursive, -f is FORCE
gnomethrower 2017-03-08 20:59:02
so "delete everything in and below my target, even if it's in use or otherwise needed"
gnomethrower 2017-03-08 20:59:14
in plain english
scootergrisen 2017-03-08 21:25:33
How can a get danish translation into the ubuntu ISO files?
Sneak_ 2017-03-08 21:25:58
looking for a proxy king
ducasse 2017-03-08 21:28:31
scootergrisen: start here - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations - look for how to submit a translation. you probably need to join the team.
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:29:35
Is there any way to enable java applets in firefox 52?
ducasse 2017-03-08 21:31:29
scootergrisen: you could file a bug, ask for it to be included
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:31:36
ducasse: we have some sites that don't play with that, and we were using the oracle version, which is npapi... is icedtea not npapi-based?
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:31:57
ducasse: it would be better to have some sites working, than none at all :)
scootergrisen 2017-03-08 21:32:05
ok
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:33:49
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Problems-with-add-ons-plugins-or/Why-do-Java-Silverlight-Adobe-Acrobat-and-other-plugins-no/ta-p/31069
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:34:03
In case you're not yet ready for this transition to happen, the ESR (Extended Support Release) of Firefox 52 will continue to support these plugins until early 2018.
alkisg 2017-03-08 21:35:14
I wonder if LTS Ubuntu releases could get that one...
OerHeks 2017-03-08 21:35:14
scootergrisen, correct, it is not included, and i looked at the danish ubuntu site, no special iso with build-in translations
ducasse 2017-03-08 21:35:40
alkisg: i think you need to install the esr release yourself, there are probably repos for it.
ikevin 2017-03-08 21:39:55
hima, take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbkJ9h71gzM
OerHeks 2017-03-08 21:39:56
scootergrisen, i know the installer itself has all translations in it, but the system .. can not find it in the docs
ducasse 2017-03-08 21:40:08
hima: i think there is a windows xp-like theme for lubuntu, but that is probably as close as you are going to get. ubuntu and windows will never behave the same, no matter how many themes you install.
OerHeks 2017-03-08 21:40:19
English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, ..
scootergrisen 2017-03-08 21:40:50
OerHeks: Where do you see those languages?
OerHeks 2017-03-08 21:41:02
These are out of my head
scootergrisen 2017-03-08 21:41:09
ok
bigbadman 2017-03-08 21:46:18

bigbadman 2017-03-08 21:46:27

bigbadman 2017-03-08 21:46:46
why does the terminal say me to use apt install to install? I am on xenial ubuntu
bigbadman 2017-03-08 21:47:08
is it workable, and reliable than apt-get now, don't know exactly which one I am supposed to use
bigbadman 2017-03-08 21:47:20
so what do you guys think?
k1l_ 2017-03-08 21:47:31
apt is the new apt-get,apt-cache,....
tracyad 2017-03-08 21:47:33
lolbig bad my
ducasse 2017-03-08 21:47:40
apt is good, use that.
k1l_ 2017-03-08 21:47:56
bigbadman: and yes, its reliable.
thyriaen 2017-03-08 21:48:01
this is what i've found: http://askubuntu.com/questions/445384/what-is-the-difference-between-apt-and-apt-get
xmj 2017-03-08 22:04:08
moin
xmj 2017-03-08 22:04:20
is xmms still maintained on ubuntu?
ducasse 2017-03-08 22:12:49
djdks: the right way to fix this is to submit a bug for your problem and get it fixed.
OerHeks 2017-03-08 22:33:50
yeeve, both getdeb and freemind are not officially supported
OerHeks 2017-03-08 22:33:56
nor in our repos
yeeve 2017-03-08 22:34:33
OerHeks, ok dude, generally speaking is getdeb a stable/safe way to install apps which aren't easily/default supported?
Ben64 2017-03-08 22:34:52
the only safe/stable thing is to not install 3rd party stuff
OerHeks 2017-03-08 22:35:06
yeeve, you tell us?
vlt 2017-03-08 22:35:11
lotuspsychje: Did it.
ducasse 2017-03-08 22:35:43
yeeve: it's "on your own risk". you break your system with that, you fix it.
yeeve 2017-03-08 22:49:31
vym seems to be just what I'm looking for lotuspsychje
lotuspsychje 2017-03-08 22:49:45
!yay | yeeve
ubottu 2017-03-08 22:49:46

ubottu 2017-03-08 22:50:46

djdks 2017-03-08 23:26:53
how can I make my VTs graphical?
djdks 2017-03-08 23:27:20

CrazyH 2017-03-08 23:29:22
how to I figure out what version of Gnome I'm running in Ubuntu 16.04? so far none of the stuff that I'm finding on the web is working. I tried using dpgk, but some of the things it lists for gnome are seem to be v3.18 while others are 3.20
CrazyH 2017-03-08 23:29:56
So the question remains... what version of Gnome am I running?
CrazyH 2017-03-08 23:35:01
I found gnome-session-common, gnome-flashback-common and gnome-software-common
CrazyH 2017-03-08 23:35:25
OerHeks, but they also all have different versions
CrazyH 2017-03-08 23:35:50
Some are 3.20 some are 3.18
