sdjfsdfsdf: basically, no it won't.
gnomethrower 2017-03-01 15:45:40
sdjfsdfsdf: It might help to know what it does - it restricts your computer in such a way that it can only boot signed bootloaders and firmware
Ben^ 2017-03-01 15:45:56
Awesome. I figured it out
Ben^ 2017-03-01 15:45:58
:D
gnomethrower 2017-03-01 15:46:23
which apparently messes with third-party drivers

I can live with deleting something by accident if I know what it was. It was the not knowing that was killing me!

My webcam keeps going out of focus. Any suggestions? It is a manual focus web cam
RonWhoCares 2017-03-01 15:47:03
I don't understand why the focus should change; the lighting is constent
santa_cruz 2017-03-01 15:48:00
Is it possible to check the integrity of a linux ISO on windows?
Ben^ 2017-03-01 15:48:02
RonWhoCares: Did you spill alcohol on it? :P
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 15:48:18
would this work to force delete something in trash safe/secure ? rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash/*
Ben^ 2017-03-01 15:48:50
Kali_Yuga: Secure? It would still be recoverable
sdjfsdfsdf 2017-03-01 15:48:59
gnomethrower: perfect. Can you give me an example when it could effectively get compromise in terms of security?
Bashing-om 2017-03-01 15:50:04
santa_cruz: See: http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/LQ_ISO/Checking_the_md5sum_in_Windows .
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 15:50:05
Ben^: I just have problems getting rid of something in the trash can. idc if its recoverable
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 15:50:13
i'll just try
gnomethrower 2017-03-01 15:50:17

RonWhoCares, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam#Testing_Your_Webcam_Using_Cheese
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:05:45
It says something like "System problem detected"
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 16:05:53
oh
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 16:05:59
do this
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:06:03
When I try to apt-get upgrade, it says "Try using -f"
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:06:21
Should I paste what I see?
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 16:06:47

This time I could grab a screenshot: http://imgur.com/2U7p3eAl.png
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 16:08:51
KalEl: seems like an dependency issue then... rm /var/crash/* only removes the crash reports

Ok

When I do apt-get upgrade -f it says "E: Invalid archive signature"
Kali_Yuga 2017-03-01 16:10:07
so if i understand right, you tried an sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and this message pops up?

KalEl: perhaps because the version of the package causing the error is higher than your base libreoffice installation (1.5.1.6-rc2 vs 1.5.1.4 which is referenced in one of your msgs above) -- perhaps it requires a base install of the same version.

Done... it didn't show any output though
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:32:14
Interestingly LibreOffice is still installed. I can use it from menu
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:32:27
I don't use it much though, I use Google Docs
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:32:53
Would it break anything if I remove it? I have xubuntu
Speiros 2017-03-01 16:32:56
What do you find the benefits/disadvantages, KalEl?
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:33:32
I just didn't feel the need to use LibreOffice
cfhowlett 2017-03-01 16:33:35
KalEl, won't break anything to purge LO
KalEl 2017-03-01 16:33:45
Ok thanks
RonWhoCares 2017-03-01 16:34:20
cfhowlett: Not more than a few months ago I switched to gucview because Cheese wasn't working right with my web cam
Bashing-om 2017-03-01 16:34:33
KalEl: If there is no problem with a trminal command, there will be no response . the package " libreoffice-style-elementary " is not required ; see: ' apt show libreoffice-style-elementary ' . What you do with libreoffice is up to you .

hello all
Aurorasaura 2017-03-01 16:38:20
Can you copy a hard drive from Windows to Ubuntu server? Like physically putting the hard drive with the files onto a machine running Ubuntu server?
RedPenguin 2017-03-01 16:38:21
I have a NIC Card bridge between two NICs, normally the connection works, but just had a power outage, PC could not connect with bridged TV Tuner until I rebooted again, anything I can do to fix?
RedPenguin 2017-03-01 16:38:40
short power outage and PC rebooted I should say
RedPenguin 2017-03-01 16:40:26
Though, the network DHCP server was still starting up as the PC rebooted, so no DHCP possibly caused?
mikeymop 2017-03-01 16:40:44
what happens if I change the password for www-data
mikeymop 2017-03-01 16:40:44
theres no way to see what is was originally so it's a one way street
Aurorasaura 2017-03-01 16:41:41
Basically I have several 4tb drives full of movies that I put there on a windows machine and I want to just put the hard drives in the ubunbtu machine instead of transfering them over the network
Speiros 2017-03-01 16:43:28
Aurorasaura Have you been able to access the files on the hard drive through other means? I mean, separately to opening the Windows Operating System on the actual hard drive?
Speiros 2017-03-01 16:44:37
Aurorasaura I mean, I use external hard drives, but I don't believe I have an operating system in the way to access them. So I'm not 100% sure to say yes or now.
Speiros 2017-03-01 16:44:40
no I mean
Aurorasaura 2017-03-01 16:44:59
Yes on Windows I can see all the movies and stuff just fine. I just dont know if its possible to put it in the Ubuntu machine and copy them to the lvm.
